Hi all,

as per the title I will be swapping my engine out in the very near future so has anyone got any tips or advice on this.

Because it\'s an engine swap out, will this make any difference to the procedure?
By this I mean is it best to strip all ancillaries off the engine before removal and put all the ancillaries onto the new engine when its fitted

or

can I build up the new engine as I go and fit it with most of the ancillaries intact.

Cheers

Undo two yellow plugs from ECU, white and blue plugs from behind glove box, the three plugs on the gearbox and an earth wire next to ECU and pull it with the harness still on the engine. I would take off the power steering and aircon pumps to stop leakage.
It\'s a pull type clutch so you need to undo the clip or undo the six bolts holding the cover on, other than that it\'s pretty straightforward.

It pretty much drops in with all the ancillaries on the block bar the downpipe.

Just give me a shout and I\'ll pop round when you start looking at it !

so it\'s out :)

1) Engine out with the down pipe, not on your nelly. Take it off and save an hour of faffing.

2) Engine mounts, I removed the two main bolts but with gear box still in place and I couldn\'t bring the engine forward. Undo the 6 bolts from the mounts to the engine, one of which is a pain but do-able. Comparing my mounts to the engine I have to go in, they are bigger with a large metal brace over the top.

First go at this and it took 9 hours over 3 nights which delayed each go at it. I couldnt have done it on my own thats for sure. Next go will should be half that.

Like I said it was the last thing I did to mine.

Good to hear it came out. Have you started dressing the replacement engine yet ?

Look on the bright side, you\'ve learned lots and saved a fortune :D
I forgot to include your Blitz I/C brackets so will send these on Monday for you :Thumbs-up
Dave.

Yeah it\'s all big learning curve Dave, annoying at the time but I\'m chuffed I had a go.

Starting the parts swap over on Monday night Shaun, got some reading up to do tonight and then starting taking pics again as I go.

Only thing I\'m short on is gaskets and a blanking plate (1?) for when I bin the air pump.

shaunwil

If you get stuck give me a shout :D

Blanking plates usually come as a kit and should be easy to find. I didn\'t do the airpump one because pip did it early days whn he had it on the dyno !
