So i get home from work , and check my post

I have a lovely letter from the Motor Insurance People and the DVLA

Because i have uninsured the JDM Cab and swappd it over to the white one , AND left it taxed ... they sent me a letter saying that they are going to fine me unless i do something about it

Yes , i slightly understand where they are coming from , but im GIVING them free money .. yet they want to fine me

I have to take action with IMMEDIATE effect or i will get a fine .. so i get fined for NOT claiming the tax back

I then spend 15 mins on hold to the MID people .. at the moment , they are only sending random people letters .. yeah thats fair ..  so not everyone gets a letter .. i see a flaw in the system here

They also dont state how long it takes to be "fined" in the letter - but the chap said its about 4 weeks .. well why not put it IN the letter

I then asked why its taken them 4 months to write to me , yet i have 4 weeks to get it sorted .. again no real answer and that the computer picks random people

OK - im slightly annoyed at this .. so they only way they knew to write to me is because i went to the hassle of insuring the car and then taxing it

So in theory , buy a car , dont tax or insure it , and your invisible to the new system .. it is just me or am i missing something here

What a shower of idiots .. really not impressed

The bloke on the phone could see where i was coming from , but he says that its a new system and they are ironing out the quirks , in the next breath he says that it was law from Feb 2010 ( im sure he said 2010 , could have been 2011 )

Even so thats a MIN of 12 months to get a system that works .. is it too much to ask

I know that motorist are easy targets , but come on this is just silly

Im tempted to write a letter when i decalare the car off road ( and claim my tax back ) saying that due to there new system they could have kept the cash , but no i want it back

Im also tempted to state that due to the fact that its taken them 4 months to write to me , can i back date it to that point ( yeah i can see that happening ! )

IDIOTS all of them ......... < Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr >

And the country\'s clamp on the motorist tightens more...

dvla are just................ useless. like you said, i think your right dont tax or insure and your invisible on their systems, as long as you avoid the road tax cams and are driving about in the country, they would never find you. in my opinion they should be paying US for improving the quality of cars on the road - Ford KA\'s etc, they are ugly mofos, and should pay more for it.

Brett

I remember a lot noise about this a few years ago - they basically made it an offence to have a car that was taxed and not MOT\'d & Insured.  The idea was to try and force the unisured/MOT cars off the road... they just didn;t get that it would screw a lot of people who might only use a car for a few months of the year.

The DVLA/DVLC is a monster.

I dont get the whole concept of "random selection" by computers! Why not just say when we had the advent of sorn, if you dont declare your car sorn within one month of the tax running out, automatic fine, no random selection!

The irony is once again, these measures are bought in to try and stop tax evasion, insurance, mot etc but the people that didnt care about such things, still dont, as Grinder says, they will be invisable probably driving around in cars not registered to them anyway!!

Anyway, scrap the whole tax/sorn b****ks, its outdated and a waste of time, staff and money. Put 0.1 of a penny on a litre of fuel and be done with it, no one can evade it, everyone pays and the more miles on the roads people do, the more they get taxed, sounds fair to me!

grinder

i once worked it out at 10p a litre and they would make millions and you could still save money on car tax

that advantge is the people who do 30K a year then pay for it - and me and the rex that only does about 800 miles a year .. nice and cheap

OR

keep road tax , but have it come with 3rd party insurance like in Aus

They dont half seem to make it hard for themselves in this country.  :rollin

Mind you, imagine all the uproar from the civil servants loosing their job because there is no road tax!

10p a litre, thats a bit generous from you dude. 10k miles a year n a 25mpg car works out at 1800 litres, 1p on that and the jobs a good un!

grinder

yeah i suppose mate

1p nice and easy !! LOL

or cut the middle at 5p

i got £100 fine for having a car with tax, with mot, just NO insurance.
Car has been in drive since insurance ran out and not even moved, literally yet still get fined without driving it and not even kept on the road.

If i was driving it then fair enough but its just sat there...

If I was you a wouldn\'t be messing with the MIB (Men In Black) they can erase your memory and deal with Aliens.:rollin:rollin

Come on I\'m not the only one that was thinking that when I read the title surely??

Sukhoi_Flagon

im just thinking, if i bought a car with tax n mot, but didnt insure it that day (say you brought it back on a flatbed), you would be eligible for the fine... i just dont see how that makes sense to those dvla peeps.

Saying that, perhaps swansea is not the best place to put the DVLA. they have redone the roads into the city, and its a complete balls up. for example. there is one section where all you can do is go straight ahead, not left, not right, just ahead. how many Traffic lights you reckon you need. 1, perhaps 2 for extra visibility?

no.

9. Nine lights for one side of a junction. complete waste of taxpayers money!!!!!!

I would also say i got stopped once for being on the phone, they did a check and came back and said the car isnt insured!!! After some messing about, they phoned my insurance company to find out it was insured they just hadnt added to the database when i took out the insurance 3 months earlier!

Doesnt seem this system is very sensible or well thought through, surprisingly!
