What is everyone running on their turbocharged FC\'s? I\'m in the market and have concluded that finding a \'propper FC kit\' is either very hard or very expensive. So what have you done and where have you got your from?

I\'m thinking about getting a universal HKS mushroom filter, mainly because they often come about pretty cheap and you can change the sponge every 3000 miles with the oil for a fairly cheap. Also i can\'t seem to find an actual HKS kit for the FC for sale anywhere other than the US.

So share, your induction set ups.

I\'ve got that kit. It was around £120 4-5 years ago. The previous owner of my car had just bought it and a HKS BOV when I bought the car. Its a good bit of kit, you don\'t have to change the filter every 3000 miles as long as you keep it clean. I\'ve not changed mine yet. I just clean it fairly regularly.

I personally think its expencive for what it is. If I was going to buy one now I\'d buy a cone filter and then buy an adapter from the filter size to the AFM size. It\'d work out half the price I\'d imagine.

I don\'t need to upgrade my stock turbo to beat your ass!

Get your finger out, get it on the road and start driving it then!!! (B.Martin 25/2/12)

cant find it now but there was a video testing all the biggest aftermarket filters/kits and the hks mushroom sucked nearly twice as much dirt/sand into your engine than any of the others, never been a fan of the mushroom kit, ill try find the vid

Yeah I\'ve heard about that before. Can\'t remember which one was the best out of them all but I think it was one of the cheaper ones.

yea from memory it was one of the cheaper version cone filters... interesting video... proving hard to find all the same, was a few years ago i seen it, to be fair all the same although it measured the dirt sucked through it didnt show how much air was being successfuly passed through.... for all we know the reason it wasnt sucking as much dirt is because it wasnt letting as much air through..

These are of course supposed to be \'oiled\', and commonly people just run them dry so they don\'t work efficiently.  You get special filter oil, or you can use a light machine oil.  I wash mine out about every 2 months and re oil it.

I\'ve heard all sorts of horror stories about them being injested by engines and what not - probably only if you let it dry out and go crumbly, or operate it without the covering cage.

They aren\'t really suitable for cars using hotwire AFM - but that\'s not applicable for the Rex.

Ive got a k&n panel filter in mine, cost £50 and its been in about two years but only done 3000 miles, not opened my airbox up in that time either so no idea what it looks like.
Just ordered some new ngk platinum 9\'s an oil so ill check its condition when i do my mini service. :)
If its filthy im tempted to get a cone filter for the induction roar rather than clean the old panel.
On a side note.. rotechnics are selling 10w40 "rotary oil!" for £20 delivered from egay, cheaper than carlube and theres a rotor on the bottle.:Giggle

I\'m finding these HKs mushrooms about for reasonable prices, i\'ve also noticed that demon motorsports version which \'the hat\' said he used to use and had no problems. I\'m just umming and arring really and wondered what everyone else had, i have heard these \'mushroom scare stories\' but surely they can\'t be that bad or HKS wouldn\'t sell them?

I\'m currently running a HKS drop in panel filter in the stock airbox, but i really want to get rid of it for an induction kit, for both sound and asthetic purposes more than anything else.

I replaced my filter element in my hks as like prof said when the car arrived from
Japan it had crumbled into lots of prices and I can only presume the missing bits went one way eek :(

well the test as shown in both links was done by an independent tuner in japan, the results are there in black and white realy.... mushroom is one of the best for max air flow... but also lets far more crap into your engine... ill go with what they say

Sorry, i missd that post when i was scan reading.

I\'ve read the mkiv.com one before, but not the other one.

However it says this at the bottom...

Quote[SIZE=-1][SIZE=-1][SIZE=-1]It is questionable how accurate the  original source of data is, as HKS are proven to sell more induction kits than  any one of the others featured in the test, and yet there induction kit rates as  the worst kit in the test. This suggests that either HKS rely upon their brand  name to sell their \'poorly\' manufactured air filters, or that the original  Japanese test was nothing more than a PR stunt to promote the lesser known  equipment. HKS and Blitz continue to be the best selling induction kits in the  UK, and are used by Middlehursts, Hiteq and Abbey Motorsport as their first  choice when the induction kit modification is carried out. I\'m not disagreeing, i\'m just shocked that the HKS is claimed to be so bad.

yea i seen that... thing is the video i seen was done by an american tuner, first test was in japan and came up with same results, never know it could all be a publicity stunt for another company.... wish i could find the video.....
its not all hks stuff btw... just the foam mushroom ones, hks is still my first choice for lots of things

m1tch

Might not have been oiled properly for the test, oiled filters are ok to use on our cars as they don\'t have a hotwire MAF.

So what\'s the conclusion then guys? You think these hks should be avoided or should I just get one?
