Turbo manifold bolts/nuts - Copper nuts?

Hi all,

I have heard that some people use the high temp copper nuts on their exhaust studs and other turbo fixing due to the fact that they withstand the heat and they don\'t rust onto the stud/manifold causing things to break.

What does everyone suggest me using on my turbo setup, copper nuts on the exhaust studs on the engine and then standard steel nuts and bolts on the downpipe and manifold to turbo?

I\'ve run with standard plated nuts for the past 4 years on the FD and fb without any real problem. Woulnt like to guess why copper would be a good idea. What\'s the melting point of copper ?

Would have thought stainless (303 or 316) would be a better idea for the no rusting. You must be only a few hundred degree\'s from the melting point where you might as well use Swiss cheese, that doesn\'t rust either :Giggle

tightening copper nuts up will be crap. if you tighten them too much the thread will strip. the constant heating up and cooling down of the copper will make it soft and work loose. the expansion rate of the nuts and the studs will be different and the nuts will relax. Just use normal nuts.
