Since a week ago I have a small daily commuter car, to save of fuel costs and mileage on my FD.
Somehow, my FD is disappointed now, and she won\'t start.
She was parked up down the street and I started her, moved her to a parking space in front of my house (200 meters), and left her there.
This morning I wanted to take her for a spin but she won\'t start.
The engine turns over, but won\'t fire.
Is she flooded? Or could it be something else?

Most probably flooded but don\'t leave it like this for too long. Either get your plugs out or tow start it, give it a good run and mext time make sure it\'s properly warm before you switch it off and all should be good again :burnout

Yep sounds like flooded, I only move my car if I know its going to get up to temp before shutdown, try a deflood procedure :)

DR SCHNITZEL

If its badly flooded the easiest and most time efficent way of clearing it is for someone to tow you for a while with ignition on and in 2nd gear plus.

Kenji

I\'m going to try later on today with the regular "pull EGI fuse, crank for 30 secs, replace fuse, then start" first.... If that fails, I guess we\'ll try tow-starting her....

Kenji

Spent the last hour with the regular deflood procedure. Still won\'t start.
Not even a sputter or cough, she just keeps cranking.
It\'s getting dark out now, I\'m getting :censored::censored::censored::censored:ed off, trying again tomorrow.....

if its badly flooded then just cranking over for 30 seconds with the plugs and egi fuse out isnt going to do it.

Put the battery on charge over nights and also leave the plugs out.

Tomorrow connect another car via jump leads and have it running/if you have a person to help have them hold steady 2k revs to ensure the alternator is giving some good power.

Still with the egi fuse & plugs out turn over the engine for 5 seconds bursts. You will need to do this 20+ times to ensure all fuel is out.

Clean your plugs up and if you have the facility to do so (oven) heat them up so they are nice and hot. put them in carefully not to burn yourself. replace egi fuse.

Get in car, push your foot on throttle completely to the floor and keep it there. Make sure your friend or other car is still running & connected.

Try and start car with foot still planted to the floor, DO NOT release your foot until the car is running well. Yes it will rev a little high and will smoke like a :censored::censored::censored::censored::censored: but its going to be covered in fuel oil so you will need to burn it off. If you  release your foot to early you will reflood the car and sucks to be you.

Tow starting it is the easiest method. You may need to give it some accelerator and may take a wee bit to get it going, then drive it for a good way to get it really warm.
The cause is probably because you only drove it for a very short distance.
Don\'t do short hops in the car and also whenever you switch the motor off take revs to 3000 and then when igntion is killed put foot to the floor on accelerator pedal and keep it there till engine stops turning, that should help it never to flood again.

I was under the impression that you should run the car gently before switch off so the turbos cool down. Won\'t flooring the gas when turned off be counter productive for this ??? Also revving the car from cold ? Or are these just things you do when flooded ?

TRIND-FD

3 k is not that high really. Doing what Carl says helps prevent flooding and wash.

When you turn the engine off but with the revs at 3000 rpm the injectors turn off as does spark so no fuel is entering the engine, but with the throttle held down flat once key is turned off the engine gets alot of air which also helps to "dry out" the engine and prevent further flooding.
Its a good habit to get into.

wat the lads have said is true im new to rotarys too and had this problem. im compiling a post for all new to rotary of do\'s and donts iv learned things like flooding etc. i found it easiest to take out the plugs clean them heat them to dry them and while there still warm slap them back in and give it a tow start instant start. if your running a high fuel rate newbies let the car warm and turn it off like carl said little bit of throttle saves so much hassle iv learned the hard way :)  newbie post should be ready by the weekend

The engine isn\'t flooded, found out today that my fuel pump is dying. Not enough fuel pressure to turn the engine over.
When we compress the return line the engine almost catches on (sputters a bit), but when the clamp is taken off the return line, it just cranks.

So, who can sort me with a new fuel pump urgently???

wolfie1

ebay but dont go for a cheapy generic 1 they just dont cut it, i had 1 in mine and it gave me no end of greif!

Kenji

Just bought a genuine Walbro off eBay.

Here\'s hoping it\'ll solve all issues.
