Which would be better a v mount or fmic?
Can get a v mount kit+ rad and all fixings for 650 or front mount for 300 then get a good quality cooler

please bare in mind i have a updated rad already

Also forgot to add is there anyway of putting the fd intake manifold on the fc

I\'ll be interested to hear the opinions on this as well :)

Seen an FD intake manifold on an FC before and a V-Mount kit on the same engine, M1tch is selling a V-Mount kit

Shows the vmount kit and the engine it came from which has an FD intake setup

I\'m gonna get flamed for this I know.....

It depends what you want to do with the car:

A) If its for a quick blast on the road or a daily drive thats not going to get the crap kicked out of it, (wide open throttle less than 2% of the time) then save the cash and go front mount.

B) If you\'re a mental and like to go fast all the time, or intend to drift or track the car fairly regularly V mount will help keep the temps (air and water)under control under sustained abuse.

I fit in the mental/track catergory so i went for option B) and saw a big difference in temps especially air intake temp. :D

Take your time and choose carefully if tyou have to save up sometimes its worth waiting in the long time, I\'ve learned this lesson the hard way.... ;)

Don\'t you need a modified radiator and fan to fit a V-mount?

Does the stock FC bumper allow large amounts of air flow upto a v-mount set up or are modifications needed?

What needs more modifications fitting a FMIC or a VMIC?

I always wanted a FMIC (probably because it says \'i\'ve got a turbocharged car\' in massive letters) but i\'m warming to the idea of a V-mount. Sorry to thread hijack, but i\'m sure they\'re questions you\'d ask too :)

Mainly the thing is airflor, the front of a stock RX bumper is fairly open in terms of flow but that\'s just inward flow, to get proper, fast, through-flow which is what v-mount is ideally set up for, you\'d want to look into getting a vented bonnet, with a vent closer to the front and facing the opposite way to stock, so most of the air that hits the front, is being pulled into the bumper and out through the bonnet vent.

V-mount does work without a vented bonnet, the vented bonnet just maximises its performance. And by vented, I mean kind of along the lines of this.

I am in the \'OMG has that got an MOT?\' category, my Hayward Rotary V mount is for sale - its basically a modded £1200 radtec system, I am thinking about keeping the rad, so the intercooler could be up for grabs if wanted.

It is indeed best to run a vented bonnet, but you can just fit louvers or have some slats in the OEM bonnet and it would be fine.

Any one know? Can you fit one with standard or uprated (replacement) rad and fan, obviously the fan protecting plastic thing will have to be removed.

Totally depends how you do it tbh. Not sure where the outlets are on an FC, but it\'s only really that that dictates whethere or not you can run in a V. I ran an unmodified FD rad in my V mounted FD for a year with no issues at all. Ground clearance was tight because of where the outlet was though.

And for the bazillionth time, you don\'t need a vented bonnet for a V mount.
The principle of air flow is to move air from a high pressure zone to low. You can actually reduce the cooling properties of an IC/rad combo with a badly designed vented bonnet as it will raise the underbonnet pressure, slowing airflow from the front of the car to the bay. With a v mount, the air can exit in exactly the same way as it does with an OEM positioned rad - out the back of the bay and down the tunnel.
Back to back testing with mine in a variety of situations showed pretty much no difference between temps with a stock bonnet and a Re:A AD9. The undertray made far more of a difference to cooling.

@B.MArtin

V-mounts will need some pipework modification obviously but you can often use the stock fans and rad dending on the kit.

As the rad isn\'t in the way driectly any more there will be plenty of airflow through the stock bumper, if you want to go after market and increase the apature that can only help.

The main thing with V mounts is pipework, mounting points and depending on the intercooler size you many need to shuffle the battery and fuse boxes. Large FMIC\'s have similar problems but behind the bumper. But rememeber if you don\'t go with a massive IC size it makes these easier (power level dependent, everything depends on everything else).

Vented bonnets are not that much more useful when the car is hooning along but static and low speed will help rising heat escape and disapate heat soak to some extent.

You can always pop and see Carl for a V mount if you fancy an all in one job, mine works nicely and it\'s of to the \'Ring for a full test in a couple of weeks. :D

all i can say is on a day that is about 20 deg C, i hav intake temp of about 30 deg C on a v mount set up and vented bonnet.

i know for a fact that the vented bonnet works as when my engine let up 1st time all the water cam out the top split rad hose and ALL out the vent. on opening the bonnet the engine was pretty much dry lol (maybe exporated away?)

anyway, need to also consider where the air intake is positioned and although the vented bonnet works, it\'d be best to get proper ducting to it draws air from above the ic only rahter than any random air under the bonnet.
also think proper ducting between the rad and ic would also help esp for drifting as the ducting between the 2 would help prevent some hot air coming off the rad and blowing into the ic.

just my experience so do shoot me :)

ps im using fd rad in my v-mount. just  a matter of working the pipe to fit and also finding a place to fit the rad :)
2 doritos on a stick woohoo :rollin

billybobbooth

i was thinking v mount so i dont have to cut the chassis for the pipes. my barrery is in the boot so wasnt an isue space wise.

wanna fit the fd intake as its a far smoother free flowing design than the fc.

im in cat b i have a colt for everyday use its a weekend drift race slag.

dont mind costs but a spare rad would come in handy.

does the fd manifold bolt strait on??
