As has been explained before, don\'t get excited cos it says special edition, if it WAS a special edition it\'d have something else written underneath like "RZ", "Bathurst" or whatever. Most imports are stocky Type R\'s (which is the "Grade R" bit). If it\'s got cruise control and a sunroof and auto box then it\'s most likely a Type X.

The only thing I have on the drivers door shut is the original sticker saying about tyre pressures and stuff. And even that has been painted over during the respray lol. Other than that there is a plate under the bonnet on the firewall on the left hand side or driver side depending how you look at it, but not much info there and a lot of it in Japanese. And then theres the chassis number again actually stamped into the firewall in the centre. Thats it. I even looked in the passenger door shut and nothing there either. ??

"Second place is just the first loser"

carlbrainiac

Guy on the phone said it wouldnt make much difference what model it is but I had a feeling it would make a difference. Thats obviously why they chose to set it as the type RS. Only problem is to change that now I really need to find out exactly what model it is.

Anyone else have any other ideas how I can achieve this?

get an aa check done on it or text that number cost 6 quid but im sure it gives you all the details about your car unfortunately i dont know the number off the top of my head

I did the text check before I brought the car and didnt tell me then. And Im guessing as the AA use the same database that wouldnt be much help either.

Dehs

dunno if this helps at all, but if yours is a \'92 import, it should be an efini type r.  You can google the year the car was made, and it will tell you the model made for that time period, and afaik, the only model made in \'92 was the efini type r.  I got lucky and mine has the import documents, but mines a \'92 import, and its a type r.

carlbrainiac

Well mine is a 92 Import but I was under the impression that the Effini model was some special edition and thus was marked effini on the back. Although I guess that could have been lost in the re-spray.

I wonder what would come up if I try to google the chassis number? lol Might try that

Dehs

You may be right, but i was under the impression there were only a couple different models made in that time period, max.  Might just be a straight up type r, if the efini is limited or something.

Dunno if googling the chassis will help, but it definately won\'t hurt im sure...

carlbrainiac

googling the chassis number didnt work. This is all I have on the plate under the bonnet. If only I could read Japanese lol. I did try google translate on my phone but its really difficult to pick it up on the camera in the position its in and the size it is.

And this is the number hiding behind the wires just in case that helps anyone help me understand what model this is:-

btw is it safe to post these details or should I not keep them up for long in case someone tries to clone my car details?

carlbrainiac

Thinking about it could that E in the model number E-FDS3 mean it is indeed an Efini model?

Dehs

Mine has that as well, and mines an Efini.  Im guessing yours will be an Efini type R the same as mine =)

carlbrainiac

Nice. :-) Well unless anyone else says otherwise I guess I will call sky insurance again on Tuesday after the bank holiday and tell them it isnt the type RS. It is in fact the Efini type R
