Yu, I\'ve had classic policies on my FD for the past 3 years, with 3 different companies.

Well I did query it with Luke tillbrook at sky insurance as the previous owner told me he did have it on a classic policy and was paying just £300 and I said that to them and they said that\'s probably because he told them it was the UK spec car with no mods. He said that is the only way he could have had it on a classic policy. In which case if/when he would have had an accident he would not have been covered. And previous owner was with peter best. And when I tried putting in my details with the car on their website and I\'m the same age as previous owner. It also said on their website that the car is not eligible for a classic car policy. Though I am confused as like you say pretty much all of you on here have the jap imports and heavily modified and got insurance no questions asked...

Just spoke to sky insurance again and they said again said two reasons why they can\'t do the car on classic policy. 1) it is only a 1992 in order to qualify as classic has to be 25 years or older. And 2) its a jap import. And I said but a lot of people on this forum have managed it even with you guys and sky Insurance said well then they are telling porkies. His words not mine. Unless there is more than one company called sky insurance and I\'m with a different one to you guys?

Oh and its £870 I\'m paying after their £20 admin fee and my mileage is actually only 4000

I\'ve been with Sky the last couple of years. My premium seems to have gone up by like a hundred quid this year to £640 (not sure why, just the dark weird vagaries of the insurance "system" maybe?). I tried Peter Best, and they knocked about 40 quid off it, with all mods, agreed valuation, all the works.

Trouble is, that\'s then insured as a classic with a maximum of 5000 miles per year. Not sure if I want to restrict myself to that, on th erare occaisons my car actually works, it\'s a daily driver and I dunno if I\'ll only do 5000 miles, always had it at least 7000 up till now. If I commute to work for a week, that\'s 120 miles at least right there, and it\'s like a 250 round trip minimum just to get to the Pod. Hmmm. Anyone know what happens if you exceed the agreed mileage on a classic policy?

Oh, should have mentioned that it\'s so expensive due to single turbo and bodywork mods and all that stuff, plus a complete loss write-off accident four years ago, own fault. They don\'t like that on your record :o. Knackered my no claims too, so even though I\'m now ridiculously old it still costs a bit

By the way does anyone know how I can find out exactly what model my car is? As when I called for a quote initially they asked and I didn\'t have a clue so he just put it down as a type RS

Hey mate,

It will be on your data plate dude, mine is a 95 RB and got it on a classic car policy with Footman James. 28 fully comp 6000 miles a year no points in LU7.

Just a word of warning regarding sky, I called them the first time and was quoted on the 7 fully comp £700ish....called back to start the policy gave all the details but spoke to someone else and they said that the bloke registered it as a UK car, said um no mate it\'s a jap import even the V5 has it as an import....after much hand ringing called back againas by now there quote was the lowest and got told sorry mate can insure you as you have never driven a RWD car.

As you can imagine 4 days before I was to collect the car I was being told that they wouldnt cover me and said come back in a year.

Tbh mate the only bloke in there that knows his onions is Ollie the rest were shall we say dumb as a box of rocks.

In the end spoke to footman James and hey presto £485 and covered, the only thing they don\'t cover mods and has to stay unmodified. Next year I\'ll be in touch with Peter Best as they cover mods and provide very competitive prices.

Regards

Matt

ok Sorry to sound Dumb but where exactly on the car can I locate the data plate? Is that the chassis number plate under the bonnet on the firewall or..? Just I dont remember seeing the model on there? Though there were two plates. Maybe I didnt look at the other one close enough. Will have another look when Im not shattered and it isnt cold wet and dark outside lol.

And yeh maybe I\'ll give peter best a call next year. Really I did want to ring round several insurance companies but I brought the car over the last bank holiday and hardly any of the insurance companies were there. Sky were the only people open who I could speak to and I was just desperate to get the car on the road and Luke said I guess to pressure me into the sale as originally the quote was £900 something he said he can do the legal cover for free which brought it down to the £870 and he said I would only get that deal if I took out the policy then and there. Normally I wouldnt fall for pressure sales like that as I know thats just a marketing ploy but like I say I just wanted the car on the road so thought may as well. And I was able to justify it to myself as they said next year on my Subaru they\'ll be able to save me over £500 on my Subaru. Although for them to insure me on the rx7 I had to get a cat 1 alarm system fitted to be covered for theft so that cost me another nearly £500 but I was going to get an alarm fitted in any case.
