So guys, was Roman right to sack Ancellotti?

Interestingly enough today on the news they were saying in the last 8 years, Chelsea have won the same amount of trophies as Man U but had 7 different managers.

I dont think he did so bad, if and i know its a big if, they had beat Utd the other week it could have been very different, so one big game lost got him the boot imho, ok he didnt fair too well in the champions league, but still, so whats more important to Roman do we think, Champions League or Premiership or both?

LOL, no I don\'t think he was right, but when you put like a billion quid into your personal toy project, you\'re gonna expect the right to do what the hell you want with it. He demands results, and doesn\'t seem to care a toss that Ancelotti won a double last season, he wants results every year.

I almost never agree with premature sacking of managers, with few exceptions it only ever brings a very short term adjustment in form, and usually teams slump pretty quickly back to how they were under the old manager.

I think the real problem at Chelski this year was the sacking of Wilkins, that was when they seemed to fall apart and never regained their early form. Still never heard any official line on why he was sacked either, can only assume he was found balls-deep in Mrs Abramovich or something (if there is such a lady)

Chelsea are only winning by buying a good team.  Whilst I dislike Manchester United for turning British Football into a corporate mesh, I dislike Chelsea more for buying their success.

I reckon the reason that Manchester United became successful is that they stuck with a decent manager through some tough times and reaped the benefit of him developing a winning team.

Chelsea hire and fire managers too often, no one is allowed to develop and the managers there are always looking over their shoulder.  Ancellotti didn\'t do so badly, second in the Premiership isn\'t to be sniffed at, however I get the impression he needed to win the Premiership, the Champions League and the FA Cup to keep his job.  That doesn\'t happen often enough to bet your job on it so I reckon he knew his number was up by mid-season.

Very true with Wilkins, no official line but the it was alleged the players didnt like him! Seems strange how they played sh*t for quite a few games after he was booted out! The current talk it would seem is the Chelsea nucleus, Terry, Lampard, Drogba even Aneleka are all a bit old and there is no one to fill their boots! Will Roman spend large this summer?

Im guessing you dont watch a lot of football, Man U\'s success is 99% down to spending, which started off way before any other club had the money!

30 Million for Ferdinand 10+ years ago!!!!!!!!!

Man U do spend a lot but they also spend on youth training as well.  A lot of their early success came from their youth programme producing the likes of Beckham, the Nevilles and Giggs.  That gave them the money to spend huge amounts on the likes of Ronaldo and Teves and Rooney and all the other greasey overpaid tosspieces in their side right now.  They probably funded a good proportion of their salaries selling Beckham Shirts to the Far East in the late 1990s/early 2000s.

I am proper looking forward to next season.  Back in 2005, the Mighty Canaries were languishing at the bottom of the Premiership but a run of good results gave hope of remaining in the top flight for another season, a highlight of those was 2-0 against Man U.  Everything I have is crossed for next season, I\'d love for there to be a few surprises when the passionless, greasey mincers of the topflight of English Football come to Carrow Road.

Hmmm, the bogtrotters have certainly impressed in the Championship this year, fair play to \'em. Whether they\'re going to trouble the Premiership.... we\'ll see. Maybe if Grant Holt slims down from his fighting weight of about twenty stone? :p

Good on the Blackpool fans new chant the other day, btw... you\'re not secret, you\'re not secret, you\'re not secret any more :rollin. Now, who could that possibly have been aimed at? ;)

All true, however, it doesnt justify the money they have spent on core players over the years, core players that have won them titles, the likes of the nevilles, giggs etc would never have had without them! P,S Man U runs at a massive loss like all the others.

Man U bought their titles for years, unfortunately everyone else has to follow suit to stand a chance of winning, you cant blame the likes of Chelsea, Man City etc for now having the ability to spend to keep up and they certainly cant do that with a few home grown talents, neither could Utd

Will66

I thought Man U were running a profit until the Glazers loaned themselves up to the eyes to buy them.  Admittedly they were essentially a branded sporting goods company that was running a football team.

Professional Football needs a salary cap or the inability for them to spend more than they make, some kind of legislation to prevent teams buying titles.

Couldnt agree more, but with the Champions league being so important to income, i guess it will never happen.

Redknapp being linked with Chelsea on the news this morning!

So what happens when Chelsea/Roman win the champions league? Where next?

Chelsea need mourinho back. He was just right for them, i have no doubt that if he had stayed they would the the top team in the world right now. Chelsea are a good team, but i agree with above statements that the sacking of Wilkins was Chelsea\'s downfall this season. I don\'t agree with the sacking of Ancelotti, BUT this is Chelsea\'s worst season under Abramovic and unfortunately and understandebly the man wants to move forward and not backward.

If Chelsea can get a decent manager before pre-season then i\'m sure next season they can be challenging for the title again. Regarding the discussion about spending your way to glory... Can anyone name a team that hasn\'t? Barca? Real? Man U? Chelsea? Now Man City will be up there as well, i do however agree with the statements that Man U have built there team over the years and they have reaped the rewards now by overtaking Liverpool.

In light of this discussion, the one team not mentioned (probably because they don\'t seem to win anything) is Arsenal. You\'ve got to have huge admiration for what Arsene has done for the club, the only premier league team to be in the black. They have a strict wage budget, strict transfer budget and the youth talent is phenominal. BUT again a big but, is on the downside they never seem to quite make it over that final hurdle and win a trophy of any kind. I have huge sympathy for Arsenal fans (as a neutral) and they do play a better brand of football (on a good day) than anyone else in the prem IMO. Maybe Arsenal need to spend a little bit more with a 3 year plan (over a 1 year) to spend and then go back into black then i have no doubt they could be one of the big teams in PL and Europe.

(Almost) finally as i mentioned in who wins good luck to Norwich, to go from league 1 to Prem in 2 seasons is a magnificent acheivment and i wish them good luck, but i do (honestly) fear a little. In the championship if you can stay consistent you have a great chance and they\'ve done that. Just wonder if it might be to soon, champo to prem is a massive gulf in skill but Blackpool nearly managed it, west brom (who finished 2nd last year) have also managed it.

Finally....

Lets hope Nottingam Forest can make it into the premiership next season, a club with a history like ours deserves to be in the top teir of English football and i\'m sure even all you guys can agree with me on that one. To get so close for the last 2 years running and at Swansea the other night i don\'t think we could have been more unlucky, again a little investment over the summer and i think we could easily take the champo title. (also good luck to Leeds who are in the same boat as Forest and deserve to be in the PL.)

End...

Ben
