Hello,

The time has come where my thirst for power has gotten the better of me and my car is currently getting some upgrades (T51r Kai/fuel rails,injectors and basically all supporting mods to see some decent power until i refresh the engine)

My question is simply which twin plate is best in your personal views and trials? it will need to support 500+ for future upgrades and ideally streetable but can take hard launches when i get myself to Santa Pod.

Also prices of deals that people may have gotten with companies such as ReWorx/Hayward/AtomicRex/WGT and all the reputable companies out there, i can fit the clutch myself so that\'s not a drama.

I\'ve been reading from searches that Os Giken seems to be a very good clutch and ReWorx supply these? I was also looking at the Carbonetic clutch and Exedy\'

Any help and prices would be great and if you\'d rather PM me details of cost rather than posting it for all to see your more than welcome.

Thank you

Im running an ORC 709 rated to 700bhp, its a bit on/off, but most twin plates clutches are, but I don\'t have any issues with hill starts or around town :)

Look

Not ALL twin plates are created equal :Hammer

THE ONLY! twin plate that is drivable like OEM (your mum could drive it!), and wont screw your gear box (i.e. has shock absorbing hub of full floating design) is the Exedy D-Core Carbon.

It has the following rating

63kg/cm tq (~670+Nm)
12500rpm rating
= over 700bhp capacity on a 13B engine

I use one in RICESP, and it holds 1.7bar even on dead cold, Carbon is designed to increase friction with heat so when you race it (either drag or circuit) simple use of the clutch means it will take even more tq (thus power).

It is QUIET and transfers MINIMAL shock back down through your input shaft and lay shaft!!! as it has a full dampened HUB! NO OTHER TWIN PLATE HAS THIS AT THIS POWER/TQ RATING.

IF you run a solid twin plate clutch YOU WILL F&CK YOUR GEAR BOX WITHIN 30,000km road driving I GUARANTEE YOU THIS. On/Off applications of power and braping engines make this even worse. Solid center clutches are gearbox destroyers (and bad for other drive line parts).

Free bit of advice for the day, from 20 years of experience using everything from Tilton (tripple plate full carbon and all models inbetween) to hobo back yard brass button magic clutches :Hammer

I made the boys list Exedy Carbon twin and tripple clutches (only twin comes in true street dampened full floating hub design).

On a side note if you are going to run say 2.5 bar boost on a 13B and make 800bhp or so they you will need to use the tripple plate carbon, I have used these in Nissan GTR\'s and they again are totally drivable like a stock std clutch! (owner let his girl drive the car, and she had never ever driven it before). These can hold well over 1000bhp and 1000n/m of tq and come in a full package for the FD RX7 (bolt in kit).

All of the Exedy clutches use the same F1 specification carbon matrix used in F1 when Exedy supplied Ferrari and some other manufactures, for drags its basically the DON MEGA as you can slip them but not wear them out like inferior carbon types let alone other sintered metal puck styled clutches.

Be warned though about the dampened hub I was telling you about, this long term does make a big life difference to the gearbox and other drive line parts/components. For a ~600bhp car I would use the D-Core unit (which I am) :King

Ive just had a carbonetics single fitted, rated to 500, so far drives much nicer than the exedy 6 puck that was on there before

PUCK style (sintered bronze, brass types) of ANY brand are RUBBISH!

Carbon is the ultimate in clutch technology.

^ If you want the best you use ones who are the manufacturers and developers of the material.

Exedy = F1
Tilton = F1 (pioneers of it in 1987)
AP = F1
Sachs = F1

All the other hobo spec types = .... knows what they have ever done or where or who they are getting their materials from in short.

Exedy is the lowest price point of the known Carbon (semi carbon clutches) on the market, and they have the reputation, manufacturing, testing (track outside factory!) to back up the claims......... I\'d never use anything else in the "consumer" price bracket honestly. Tilton, Sachs, & AP make FULL proper carbon race clutches (carbon drive disks and floater plates and friction flywheel plates, they are VERY LIGHT, and VERY EXPENSIVE ...... I have one I will post up pictures of later)

^ Never herd of them I only deal with reputable brands who have a history of full manufacturing not parts outsourcing :Giggle

Exedy meets all requirements and at a very low price for the level of bespoke technology you are getting. :Thumbsup!

EDIT (ATS) Just Googled them LOL! they have a floating hub design but its NOT dampened.

For a road gong application it really is a must to have a shock absorber between the engine and the input shaft, this is why all OEM clutches have a sprung center hub, this reduces vibrations and dampens shock loadings being transferred through the gearbox itself.

In twin plate clutches not many have this, Exedy I know do and I have tested multiple versions of it over time across many cars and thus highly recommend them, they are VERY LONG wearing (have a few customers who drag them) and I myself used one about 5 years ago now to fully set up launch control settings for Race Logic, and did countless numbers of starts and slip tests on one unit, this was later taken out and cleaned and sold for near the price of a new unit to somone who need a clutch in a hurry :) it measured almost as new when I took it out for sale :god that customer is still running this same clutch now.

Based off that I bought another one for myself, and highly recommend them to anyone who asks the question. :King

Quite a few people never heard of you, doesn\'t mean that you are not the DON of Rotary.. :) You are, isn\'t it??

But dont worry I hear you... I am sure you had a great fun with Exedy...however, I don\'t find Fergie\'s curves in Exedy Clutch..its a bit manly for me....;)

Joking....

Cheers for your in put
