What are the maximum RPM speeds that can be safely attained on stock internals?

I understand the need for strengthened stationary gears... Are they stronger on the RE, REW and Renisis lumps?

And correct clearancing etc for real high RPMs

dunno if it\'s any help, but my rev limit has been raised from 7800 to 8100rpm, so I assume that there is a bit of margin on top of that as well.

8,500 is about the highest you can go, above that your looking at more cash, clearing, scalloped rotors maybe, and definately a dry sump.  Roughly 2,500 for that alone. Should get 10,000 rpm with that kind of stuff though.

kiwimazda

I raised my rpm just by pressing the pedal a bit further.lol. sorry couldn resist.

BlitzBoy

I run up to 9000 rpm, clearenced motors were the only mod to acheive this.
Everything else stock, normal sump, but obviously you should have decent ports to make use of the higher rpm.

8500rpm for everything stock, if its a FC motor then bearings and gears from the rew motor

Is that all?? Not played with the rev limit on the rex yet but redline in the Civic is like 8k lol

No ones mentioned ancillaries so I will - water pump and oil pump need to be taken into account for the higher revs.  Also alternator ?

You can get underdrive pulley kits for the water pump and alt, but the oil pump is on a chain behind the front cover - not sure if this requires any modification to support the increase in rpm, have seen a number of sites say that shimming the oil pressure reg is a good idea - but no one really gives a good explanation of why.

yep, everyone goes on about how VTEC engines (S2000 for example) can rev to 9k. Rotaries can get almost there as stock and much higher with a bit of work.

One of the reasons you can get more power to the wheels out of a smaller capacity engine is that the rotors and driveshaft rotate on the same axis, makes it easier to do. In a boinger you have to turn up and down motion into rotational motion. You lose a bit of energy doing this.

re japi

My brothers 12a peaks 9500 rpm nicely. And around 8000 rpm ot runs very smooth. Stock internals, stock balances, stock bearings. Engine is street portet and checked.

So far water and oil pump has worked but alternator belt keeps blowing up. ;)
Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

yeah, but, Honda motors have a powerband that\'s slimmer than a gnat\'s private bits :)

At what point are you seeing the power drop off Blitz?

Why rev to 12000 rpm if you don\'t need too.  I don\'t need to rev the engine much above 7000 - it makes copious power from 4K through to 7K and roads are too short to excersize it anyhoo. :cheers

it doesn\'t :D, good ports and mapping :chat
