Im looking to uprade my Turbo\'s and im interested in how the performance of the car will change.

I believe Gurj is running a T88, how did this effect low down speed, and do you lose traction when the big turbo kicks in?

Ive also noticed the twin turbo upgrade  on rx7store which includes 2 T28\'s.  I was led to believe that on the stock configuration the turbo\'s ran at different times, the bigger one when you get to 5\'000rpm etc...  So how would 2 T28\'s work?

What are your opinions on this as im about to spend out big time after Rotorstock persuading me i need more power!

regards.

Just remember all the other bits youll have to do to go single.  Fuel system, ECU, etc and theres no point in doing it if you dont get it mapped properly too.

Yep ive got that covered, its gonna be pricey, but ultimately worth it.

Ive just gotta decide how big a turbo :)

it probably means a nearly new GruppeM Filter Charger will be for sale though :(

I guess it depends on the final use or power goal.

T04e or T04s or GT35/40 seem popular for decent response and circa 400bhp, spooling by around 3500rpm.

T88s are hooge!

MintyFresh

Yeah, thats what i need to figure out.  If i want descent power from a T04 or wether a T88 is driveable.
Im gonna want to run the quarter mile, but also use it everyday if i have to.

MintyFresh

I like the idea of having the huge power when i need it at the touch of a button, but to run an everyday hp of about 300.
Really i want a quick spooling but big power turbo/turbo\'s.  Has anyone uprated to bigger twin turbo\'s?

The (stock) rx7 does use a sequential setup but both turbos are the same size. I\'m not sure exactly how this works (too technical for me!) but I assume it allows the boost to run for longer into the revs where a single small turbo would have run out of puff.

Uprated twins would be my preference but going single simplifies life under the bonnet and removes some of the headaches caused by the sequential set-up.

My understanding from some of the big singles is that they spool up by 3500 rpm for the more expensive snails so not to odifferent from the stock ones.

If it was me, I wouldnt bother thinking about a single unless I wanted more than 400bhp.

If you dont want that much, its a lot of money to gain very little.

MintyFresh

i know its possible to push the standard turbo\'s to around 350bhp, but this must drastically reduce their lifespan?

J4P RX

Maybe so, but your going to be pumping the same power into your engine too with a bigger turbo.  It might be slightly better from a bigger turbo, but its not gonna last as long.

MintyFresh

how much of an improvement is 2 T28\'s over the standard turbo\'s?

If you\'re on about big singles or after market no-seq twins - and big power - I\'d seriously think about getting it rebuilt - ported and dowelled - before you bother sticking T88s or twin 28s on it. To realise the power those setups are capable of you want to run lots of boost. A stock motor wont give u the sterngth or breathing.

Bare in mind also that a T88 isnt going to be spooling til like 5500rpm then is going to hit u in the back like a shovel.

I would do a LOT of thinking b 4 u fall into a money pit like the one you are describing...

I would go for a good hardy rebuild first, or run more boost on the stockers, poo them and then go for rebuild, turbo(s) etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc. You are talking LOTS of money here to go from the set up u currently have. Fuel, intake, turbos, management, exhaust, tuning, installation, brakes, suspension etc....

Do some research. Then do a lot more :)

Good luck , let us know how things go. And good decision on not selling her - even if u r about to let her make u bankrupt :rollin

Totally different ball game!

Twin 28s are a non-seq kit, akin top the turbo setup on G11ARYs black car.

I thought G11RY\'s black car was running some sort of bespoke one turbo per rotor and one exhaust system per rotor set-up?
