Has anyone seen whats happened in f1 over winter?
It makes sense to start a 2011 discussion thread.

Renault F1 will be renamed Lotus Renault F1, basically Lotus Group (who are designing 5 brand new cars to come out over the next 2--3 years) want to get back in F1.

However, there is already an existing Lotus f1 team, Team Lotus.....run by Tony Fernandes and the Petronas group.

So, next year, we will have 4 lotus cars on the grid over two completely different teams.:Hammer

I really dont know how its going to work.......quite amazing really.

Easily the best looking cars on the grid. Will they be powered by the same engine?

L18M

are they not changing to 1.6 turbo engines? as read in autocar.. or maybe thats nxt year?

Ferrari will be announcing details / unveiling their car in the last week of this month.

IIRC thats the year after next (2013) with the 1.6 engines - bring back the 2004 season. Can\'t believe how many track records are set iin this year.

Lotus Renault will be exactly that.
Team lotus run Cosworth engines.

the 1.6 turbo 4 cylinders dont come in until 2013.

Na dude, circuits are constantly changed every few years, so lap records are are only valid for those years. You get a 80s Turbo F1 car or an early 90s active suspension car like the Williams they will be much quicker then the cars of 2004 cars on an identical circuit IMO

wrong.

Team Lotus have done a deal with renault to have there engines and redbulls gearbox

I remember seeing the old skool turbo f1 cars at goodward in 09, awsome machines.
Although i dont think they were reliable, and a highly strung out turbo`d 1.6 is just asking for trouble!

Also, Ferrari have given a few people the flick... looks like a cover up to draw peopled attention away from the fact that too many people in the team were jumping to Alonso\'s tune, rather than making tactical decisions...

Williams are looking good...
Mercedes have no excuses...
McLaren, Ferrari & Red Bull - business as usual at the front?

Personally, I can\'t wait for it to kick off again :)

The 1.5 Turbo Engines in the 80s were getting 1400 bhp in qualifying but only 750 bhp in the race.  I reckon there won\'t be much difference in pace between the N/A 2.4 V8s and the Turbos.

Apparently putting details of your car spec in your signature means the nice folks on exile-rotorsport think you\'re a fool.  I can think of no higher compliment!

they are going to be limited rev wise.....there is talk of a 10--12k rev limit.

Is it true the turbo lumps will be limited to 12,000 rpm? And also the reduction in engine size is to show there help for fuel economy? I can\'t see there being much difference in the GPM ( gallons per mile )

Grant Monkhouse

Believe the 80\'s turbo qualify engines were runningclose to 4 bar! That\'s amazing
