evening all, as some of you may know, im looking for my first FD, and being only 21 and regarded as suicidal by most insurance companies, im going to have to have a Cat 1 alarm fitted to whatever car i end up with.

my old man mentioned getting a tracker fitted, but iv done a few quotes with various trackers, but non of them have made a penny of difference.

so id like to know if anyone has one fitted and what differences it made.

Thanks in advance :3gears-lh

I was 21 when I got my FD

Getting a UK model helped my insurance by a LARGE margin.

Cat 1 alarm didnt do much...neither did tracker...I just had an alarm fitted for peace of mind and left it at that...no point spending another 300 quid + yearly charge on a tracker which could be spent on something else.

Try to get the car kept in a garage overnight too...that helped me a little.

Apart from a clean licence and the above...thats pretty much all you can really do.

iv done a few quotes, and they didnt charge me a penny extra for an import, which is nice of them, and they put a good £4 - 500 on if i dont have a cat 1 fitted, strange how it can vary so much

id like to put the car in my unit over night as its only going to be a toy car, but that would mean fitting mud plugger tyres :( but something to bear in mind

you\'ll find a lot of insurers won\'t touch an imported car without a Thatcham cert\'d alarm.

Cat 1 alarm makes a big difference as most won\'t insure without it. My car had a tracker fitted by a previous owner. Spoke to the insurance company eho said not to bother getting it activated as I\'d spend more on annual rates than saving on insurance. Only necessary on uber expensive cars apparantly.
