Lower thermostat and fast idle in winter

Hello all and Merry Christmas!!!

Here\'s my problem... I\'ve installed a SARD 75C thermostat during the summer and everything was great - I was idling at 800rpm. However, now that it\'s winter my idle won\'t drop any lower than 1000rpm unless I race the engine a bit - and even then it comes back up after a while. Should I adjust the fast idle screw? What should I do other than replace an OEM thermostat for the winter?

Thanks!!

personaly I see cooler thermostats as a mask to an underlying problem! you shouldn\'t need to open the stat any sooner than 82c as this is the optimum temp for the enginess to operate! If you were seing high coolant temps then the coolant system needs updating or looking at :(

But in answer to your question, then engine is going to idle higher due to it running slight cold start (up to 78c IIRC?) and this will increase idle to 1000, so if you want to see a lower idle and beter econamy, put the 82c stat back in ;)

Thanks for the response!

Yep, my temperatures were nice, but I installed it as a precautionary measure against the summer temperatures here in Greece (42C++).

Problem solved! Re-adjusted the off-tune TPS sensor and idle is normal and steady now, despite the lower thermostat! :Thumbs-up
