I\'ve finally laid my hands on a RX7 FD (3rd gen 1995) as a project car, the problem is i dont know much about the car(rotary engine no cilinders:confused:). I\'m a compleete newbie to this scene. By now its a no starter. The batery is flat as a ironing board. i\'ve started it before jumpstarting it.Started and stalled after a while. Now the a/c and wipers dont work and i wont start. I know the car will require an injection of money to get it in a good shape(need some interior parts as well). I would like to know who is a good specialist to have a look at it so i would know what is wrong with it. ive read a lot about RoTechniks which is close to me because i live in west London and they are in reading. But ive read as well they charge a lot. and another thing is Is there someone who would know where to get a new engine if needed?:3Confused

Thanx for the help....

Jit

Where abouts in west london are you dude? Theres quite a few FD owners over in NW, W and SW London - can think of 10 off the top of my head

oveck4

Hounslow to be specific.

Jit

Ahh theres plenty of owners around that area - I can think of 5 within a 5 mile radius. Sounds like youve managed to flood your FD when it stalled. You got a link to the advert where you bought the car or any other info/pics. The FD community is quite a small one so its likely someone might know the car

the thing is; the mileage was wrong on the ad. so im sure the car is not in the best shape, im wouldnt be surprised it the engine would be in a bad shape. she interior isnt to tidy as such. but it\'ll change...

Jit

Ahh! See the benefits of a small community. The car belonged to a lad on here called "ruffryder"
I compression tested the engine about 6 months ago and off the top of my head, the readings were mid to high 6s which whilst isnt indicative of a rebuild, theres still certainly plenty of life left in the engine if maintained well. There were a few issues with the car but I cant for the life of me remember! I know it had replacement turbos at hayward rotary and there was an issue with it cutting out randomly
edit - i think when cold you had to keep the revs up initially till it warmed up.

so would u look at it? can u send me a link to your site? And another thing he told me; was thet it eats a lot of oil. Was there a leak somewhere? i was thinking about hauling it to RoTechniks for a thorough check and a fix. my budget is a bit tight for the moment.

Jit

As a general rule, I dont usually work on other peoples cars although I have done a few. I dont have a site (yet) but I mainly import FDs and sell them and as such I work on my own cars. I dont mind having a look around it to see if theres anything obvious that may have been missed.
You will have to define "a lot of oil." These engines are designed to use oil (a small amount is injected directly into the combustion chamber by the oil metering pump) so you will have to be more specific. If you are looking for a specialist, might I recommend Powergains motorsport in Romford

oveck4

The car needs to be put on a lorry to get it there... Reading i think is closer

for the oil I was told to topup every 2 weeks. is that normal?

Jit

Why would it need to go on a lorry? If its just flooded then a deflood is easy enough! Theres plenty of guides on here or I can show you how - its really simple.
Depends on how many miles youre doing in 2 weeks! I find its normal to top up around 750ml every 1200 miles

it looks like there is a electrical issue as well. as writen before. It might be one of the relays. ive checked the fuses they all are ok.

Jit

Have you checked the fuses in the drivers footwell as well as the ones in the engine bay. AC not working is quite common on FDs to be fair. Reasons for that can be anything from duff AC pump to no gas or an Apexi ECU that hasnt setup for AC. Id still recommend taking it to Powergains as the labour rate is considerably more reasonable than Rotechniks.

the heater light stays on. ive checked the foot well ones. as ive said before i dont know this car. im ok around cylinder i know nothing about rotors...

Hi mate, if u need help with your fd, I wud recomend-learn abt your car and do most of things urself, if u need help with ur car, I m willing to help u for FREE. If unfortunately u needed any engine help, I can arrange that for u in a very cheaper price with genuine warranty. I have spent a lot of unescessary money on cow boy mechanics. You are better off reading about the car. Tim at rx motors have loads of housings on a resonable prices, u have pip at WGT who is very experienced with mapping. Remember one thing abt rotaries mate, they mostly blow due to heat and bad tuning. I know ppl on this forum who rebuild their engines and got it tuned by good tuners. I m willing to help u at no cost because I don\'t wanna see another "I" who get done by these cowboys out there. I have 20b engine now in my Fd so I may b able to help u with 13b parts. I am near A406 in ilford. Contact info 07862292616
