Is anyone on here a Peugeot mechanic?

Apologies for this not being rotang related but my mate is at the end of his tether.

So he\'s got a 55 plate Pug 307 HDi 2.0l and the other day the de-pollution warning notice came up, and the orange engine shaped light in the centre of the cluster lit up. The car has intermittent lack of power, sometimes it go\'s like a rocket (for a tractor :bandit) and then it\'ll randomly die off and not pull over 3k and sometimes hiccup it\'s merry way along. Upon doing some reading it turns out the de-polluction message is something to do with the particulate filter-anyone know anything about this? Would this cause the lack in power?

Also, we had a squiz under the bonnet with the engine running and noticed that the clear fuel pipe from the big filter to the injector rail looks like there is loads of air bubbles in the fuel which doesn\'t look right to me so if anyone has a 307 or knows a bit about them then please let me know.

By the way-the car has got 66k on it, has been serviced at correct intervals and the warning notice and light are not up all the time.

Please no suggestions of just putting a rotary in it as I\'ve already tried that and he said  \'a what?\':D:D:D

Ok... to me this sounds like a problem with the FEP fluid injection... this is injected from a tank near the fuel tank everytime the fuel filler cap is opened or closed.  What sort of driving does the car do?  Mainly town, or does it get a good motorway thrashing regularly?  Also, how does he/she fill the car?  Is it a full tank every time, or £15/20 top ups?  If any of the above is true, the car may have gone into what is effectively a limp home mode because it belives it is out of FEP fluid.

If the car is not driven hard, the particulate filter may have become clogged - there is a procedure to clear this, but you need the Peugeot Planet software, and a good clear 20ft behind the car when you do it! (It can cause some serious flamage)

So.... take a look at the above and see if it rings true....  worst case you will have to take it to a the main stealer for a diagnostic...

Yeah it just pootles round town, some 5-10 mile trips and the odd long drive at a weekend. I\'ve read a lot about this bloody filter and it seems that it can be successfully cleaned but like you said-still needs the Peugeot Planet software to clear the light.

Sounds like the filter is blocked then... there is a pressure sensor before and aft the canister - if the pressure is out of range it goes into limp mode....  might be worth taking it out on the motorway/dual carriageway for a good hard run (if it will run well enought o let you) - they do a burn cycle during normal running, so you might be able to force it to do one by getting it properly hot...

Don\'t mean to comment when I know \'nowt but this is what Honest John says about a Citroen Picasso 1.6 with a DPF problem in this Saturday\'s Telegraph.

"Repeated short runs from cold starts will bring up a dashboard signal \'Depollution System Fault\'. The DPF might regenerate if you drive a long distance. The dash should also warn you if the Eolys DPF Regen Fluid (WTF is that? - my words not HJ\'s) is running out and needs replenishment.

HJ then goes on to say the DPF with this engine will last 80,000 to 120,000 miles."

Hope that adds to the knowledge.

Not really Brett-can\'t get it to produce enough power to take it on a dual carraigeway. The fumes coming out of the exhaust melted my fleece glove though just like that!

The pugs have A daft system for metering it into the fuel... I think it\'s going to be a main stealer job :/

Today we had a spot of luck, we went to our local Peugeot place and a lad we went to school with worked there and he managed to sneak the diagnostic laptop out the back door and have a look at the faults. Turned out the de-pollute light was being triggered by low fuel pressure so a £12 fuel filter later and we\'re sorted. :Santa
