Just thinking about what LSD\'s there are out there and wondered if anyone has any recommendations for LSD\'s for the EGI.
Obviously there is the KAAZ 1.5 diff but that is probably my absolute limit money wise.  Has anyone any experience of using MX5 LSD in an EGI?
Would the one in the link below be a fairly painless task to fit to an EGI?

Also just to note I really don\'t fancy a welded diff as I just think that it will be too much of a pain in the butt to drive on the road, and also I do not think it will help me go faster round a track (please correct me if im wrong).

Thanks

well a good LSD should lock up about 80% opposed to 100% of a welder. The only difference with an LSD is that is that it will open when you put the clutch down/don\'t put any load on it. For a track car you\'d want a pretty tight LSD meaning it doesn\'t take a lot to make it lock as you don\'t want it locking mid corner etc. The LSD may make a bit of a i
difference in an egi but its not worth it imo. Lots of money for the diff + setting it up and you have to look after it.

As for the mx5 diff, don\'t know how much that will lock, though its most likely to be under 50%

Ok I see your point with regards to cost.  Seeing as I have a spare EGI and diff from this car, I may weld that up and give it a try on the next drive and slide day.  At least then I have the option of using an open or welder, depending on how I get on with it and what sort of driving day I am doing.

Thanks

I was pretty sure it was only the 1.6 diffs that go straight in to the egi diff casing. Not sure though that info is just from reading what is on line so i might be furthering rumours by typing this.

TBH regarding the swap, I\'d give somewhere like rotechniks a call. they might know.

one in each car sounds like an idea. James H recommended solid diff mounts also saying it made the car much nicer on the road (with a welder). I think he recommended solid subframe mounts too. . If you\'re taking the diff out, i\'d replace these bushes anyway.

Additionally, getting the diff out yourself isn\'t as hard as it may appear to be. Some garage\'s will charge quite a bit of money just for removal and replacement

You can use the 1.8 mx5 diffs as well.

Its a good idea to have an open diff & welder but once you have changed it twice, you won\'t be rushing to do it again its a pig of a job!
So i just left the welder in but it won\'t be ideal on the track, but which ever you do choose to go for, would really reccomend as dthebuk pointed out, getting hold of some solid rear mounts & a diff snubber (also if you wanna drift loose the dtss\'s) as this gives you a really solid diff & subframe, taking any play out & giving you a very perdictable back end.
