As you can see I\'m having a wild friday night in, seeing as I\'m posting about Rexanne rather than out partying :P

Though I have to admit I\'m mostly being distracted by looking at Alfa 105 coupe restoration projects..... one day, one day.

Looks as though a \'left handed\' welder would be useful for this section - know what you mean about access issues. No real solution on this Steve except hang on in mate.

Suspension links have come up well though. The beauty of using sand media is that it mostly polishes the surface rather than digging in and leaving a very rough profile as does the chilled iron grit (steel shot tends to leave hammer marks). Don\'t leave then too long uncoated otherwise the cleaned steel will start to \'bloom\' (very light rusting will form) - it is recomended that any item sand blasted or the like should be coated within 4 hrs maximum (in high humidity areas even less time).

Alfas.....Tempting, mmmmmm.

New ones and older ones, I think Alfa is the comeback king at the moment.

They are, I\'ve been so close to buying a 916 GTV many times, and the old Giulia coupe are just THE nicest coupes of their era.

If Alfa make the 4c, RWD sports coupe they are rumoured to be making at a more sensible price point than the 8c! that will be massively tempting!

13B PP Alfasud would be where it\'s at for me.

There\'s a red Alfa Junior in a tin shed garage down the road from me. N Reg I think. The younger daughter\'s partner (Alfa Trained) says that at around £1000 it\'s too much and too rusty.

Daughter says her partner also has a (rusty) Alfasud in his workshop too. Plus an FD in a container (MOT fail), plus an \'A\' Reg Merc Cruising machine that doesn\'t cruise.

I love random sheds like that-there is one down the road from me which is home to two Lancia Beta coupés, a Lancia Beta HPE, a Lancia twin cam engined Moggy Minor and two Alfa Suds. All waiting...

A freind of mine had a Lancia Beta coupé in a garage, he left it there for a couple of years, when he went back he had to shovel it out, the interesting thing is he bought my first RX7 off me to replace it , that was back in 82.

Haha yeah they have a habit of doing that. My Delta was in a dry garage and that still had to be dustpanned out again a couple of years later.

When I\'ve finished with Rexanne I might have to find out more about the Junior :P My parents had a Fulvia when I was small, I blame that on my taste for expensive to run/interesting/unusual cars ! haha

One thing at a time though..... I reached a meaningless milestone with Rexanne today! :Party:guinness:guinness:guinness I finished with the welding on the rear of the car :)

I\'ll let the pictures tell the story mostly. I was quite pleased with how the arch lip came out, it will look fine once its been smoothed a little more:)

2nd patch into the inner arch, and the inner arch welded to the outer arch.

Outer layer of rear quarter filled back in.

Inner layer then made to join the new outer layer

And finally the arch lip rebuilt.

The last thing I did on Rexanne today was to give her a wash to get rid of 3 months of metal dust that had collected.

She looks much better for it, but there\'s still a fine layer of dust stuck to the paint work and windows :( I was pretty gentle washing her as I didn\'t wanna rub any metal into the paint causing scratches, but the bits that do remain are fairly stubborn.

A quick bit of internet searching brings up this:

http://www.clean-image.co.uk/articles/fallout.htm

Which makes for interesting reading. think I might have to try claying the car, in fact my friends who actually like to keep their cars clean often use clay so I\'m sure I can steal a little for a test patch!

Ah and just found this thread:

Hmmm, more research needed! It does sound like clay will basically work, though they seem to be debating it a little. I try not to listen to people who are into \'detailing\' too much as they;d have a heart attack if they saw the paintwork I\'m normally happy with :P

Aaah Fulvia\'s now we\'re talking. Good progress though mate-whats next, rebush and reconstruction?

Steve-A

Kinda, before I can reassemble I need to paint the underbody, to the half way point of the car and I need to paint all the suspension links and modify the diff casing and paint that.

Lots to do! I\'m gonna have a bit of a push monday, as i\'m not working, to make some progress with the painting :)
