oil metering pump

I may be being overly paranoid here...but is there anything I should look out for, and is there any way of knowing if it\'s working?

There does seem to be an oil leak from the pump, or around it...and the two pipes that run up to the carb look pretty clear to me, not much sign that any oil has gone through them?

there is an arm that goes down to it - I take it that\'s the actuator, should it move? not seeing much happen at all to be honest

I have only done a thousand miles or so since the service, but I haven\'t seen the oil level drop at all, thought I would have by now?

Please tell me I\'m being paranoid, I\'m not going to start the engine until I know oil is getting in there!!!

Page 61 of the Haynes manual tells you how to check it\'s working ok and how to adjust it.
The actuator arm should move as engine speed increases.
If you\'re worried about it you can run premix to be on the safe side, until you have sorted it out

As a first check there should be some signs in the clear plastic OMP pipes that \'bubbles\' of oil are moving upwards when the engine is running fast. As you rev it they inch up the pipe very slowly.

Then as Ian, Haynes gives the results for oil delivery on test. Have you got the data?

Third get some Millers KB2T (or something equal) fairly quickly and premix by dosing the tank. I use 80ml per 20 litres of fuel WITH OMP working, so you possibly need to double that initially, in case your OMP is broken.

I think oil level not dropping doesn\'t mean much if it\'s stop/start street running. Mine doesn\'t really drop noticeably whilst codgering about. If it\'s motorway use (hot engine) or flat out running on the other hand, then it should drop noticeably.

cheers guys,

had a look at the weekend, and the actuator arm is moving, but I can\'t really see any oil travelling up the pipes.
I stuck some 2 stroke oil in with the petrol (approx 250:1), just to be on the safe side...and once it\'s down to a low level I\'ll put enough in there to run as premixed only, and take the pipes off and measure the output :)

It has only done about a thousand miles since the service, but the level is still bang on...and most of those miles have been, shall we say, spirited driving...hmmm...

Ignore this!  Should look what gen you\'re running :(

No Probs,
I suppose the FC/FD have some electronic gizmos? We\'re the old \'Mechanical-Linkage-for-Everything-Brigade\' in the 1st Gen Section.

250:1 is what I\'m using at 80ml to 20 litres. Maybe increase the additive a bit if you think the OMP ain\'t doing it?

The haynes manual says to run the engine for 6 minutes at 2000rpm. The pump should deliver about 2 - 2.5cc.
Haynes says: If not correct, adjust the endstop of the lever.
I don\'t have an endstop as shown in the manual. Does it means it never need adjustment?

David Nock (RIP)

It looks like the end stop adjustment is on the carburettor, at the top of the operating lever? It seems to be a MAAS-cap type antitamper screw on mine.
