My car has no alarm or immob and im a little concerned about theiving toerags :2Mad and think i should get one fitted (by someone other than myself!) before i get my car back on the road in april.

Anyone got any tips?

I was thinking about a battery isolator or just a simple noisy alarm.

Anybody have a remote engine start so you can warm your engine while sat inside with a cup of tea? :Giggle

Dont really want to spend more than £200 any ideas

Cheers people.

cheap and cheerful option would be a fuel cut off switch hidden somewhere

Yeah i did think about fuel cut off but but i reckon id forget to do it cos it would have to be on the outside of the car, i was actualy looking them in the demon tweeks mag today think it was about £6 :Giggle but there range of alarms isnt great.

Think the best bet would be a good alarm aswell as a fuel tap???

Although im not really sure as ive never had to think about security as my cars have either had a standard alarm with a button thingy or a complete heap of junk that nobody would want :Giggle

grinder

why would a fuel cut off have to be on the outside ?

you can cut the 12v feed to the fuel pump and put a switch on it and then just hide the swich inside the car somewhere ( even under the bonnet )

that way - if someone breaks in - they will have to spend 10 mins finding the switch :D

it could be something as simple as hiding it in the glove box or underneath it

only downside with this - the more clever the hiding of the switch - the more hassle it is to use it :(

shame that no one has made a cheap monitoring system , that you leave a unit in the car ( armed when at home ) and something that plugs into the house ( like a wireless doorbell ) - once the car get says 50 feet from the plug in device - it sounds an alarm

ok the car is 50 feet from you and being driven off - but it would give you chance to phone the police before you notice 6 hrs later

another down side - you have to be at home when the car is stolen

i had a plan a few years back to make a removable gear stick - that way you can park the car up - stick it in 1st and remove the gear stick - you cant steal a car that you cant change gear in ;)

i suppose you can just go with the deterent route - and stick a big wheel lock cover on it ;)

anyways - thats something to think about ;)

me again .........

when you park the car up - just take the EGI fuse out - no spark and no fuel = car stays on the driveway :D

im full of ideas.. what about a removable steering wheel .. same theory - no point nicking a car that you cant steer

all this fails if they just want to steal it for parts though - as they will just drag it onto a low loader and your screwed

Some good idea\'s lol
never thought about an elecrical fuel cut switch i was thinking a manual turn switch on the fuel lines somewhere.

The egi fuse is a good idea, what about a line from that to a switch in the cabin?

grinder

not sure if i would trust the fuse on a switch to be honest

i have to admit - i like the idea of wiring a fuel cut switch into the mirror adjustment - or something thats in the car ..

you could be really clever ( but lots of work ) and wire it into the light switch near the mirror ?

it looks like there is 2 thoughts on this - use a normal switch but well hidden , or use a stock switch and use that ( wont look a miss in the interior )

if you was good enough - you could put a push switch under the centre console ( begind the handbrake ) - but sticking it with some carpet ontop - that way if you opened it - it would look ok - but have a switch just sitting underneath that you have to push ?

you could get another fog light switch and stick it in the blanking plate - it would look like it should be there ?

there are loads of places really - you need to just sit the car and have a real good think about it

you "could" .. get some really fancy relay and holder ( say a 15 pin one ) - wire up ALL the wires into the loom - but only 2 of them actually run the fuel pump - then put the relay in when you want to use the car

if a thief removed the holder - there would be too many wires to trace to see what went where

and the combination of twisting 2 of them to make the right circuit would be time consuming

sorry, i should of been more clear. i ment as grinder said. switch in fuel pump line.
i had a thought of using the a/c button but... if someone was pasengering n got hot or cold n pressed the a/c button then :(
lol

i sometimes take my steering wheel off (yes, undo 6 screws) still waiting to find a nice slim q/r hub.

i got a 2 way remote alarm. cheap, yes nearly grinder friendly price :)
range is about 1/4 mile i think maybe more, forgot.
but depending what options you choose and sensors then the fob will let u know if door is open / window smashed / motion etc
also auto arms after 1 min of unlocking and door not opening.
i think auto elec cost about £100 for fitting. has immobilizer also.
not thantchames approved but it works, its loud its somehting :)

More cool idea\'s:D especially like the fog light switch:Thumbs-up

I think a simple rocker type switch hidden under carpet somewhere will be good enough for me.

Yet another job to add to the list!

peterwolds

typical ginder take egi fuse out - cheap :Giggle good old stu :Thumbsup!
to be honest i think a cat 1 alarm is best cuts insurance down also.
when i had evo V 1st thing was a clifford alarm fitted, same when i got the fc had clifford concept fitted ok cost a fair bit BUT was wired so total window closure, anti tilt sensor & being a cabriolet the guy wired up the glove box so if left with top down kept things safe.
think about it if was stolen whats chance of police being in withernsea - as rare a sight as hornsea i bet

Removable stearing wheel like Mr Bean might work :)

1990_fc3s_t2

Ha yeah police are pretty non existant here too, loads of drug addicts and no police:Hammer not a good combination!:(

Think id better have a look at some decent alarm sysems:) but i think il still do the fuel cut off secret switch aswell:evillaugh keep them theives on their toes.
Cheers.:wave

I wouldnt want to take steering wheel off every time i get out the car and where do you put it? have to carry it about with you!

Good alarm properly fitted and the fuel cut switch should be more than enough and i like the idea of remote start but my cars in a garage so might not be such a good idea:Hammer
