I have decided to put this in the 2nd gen section - as we have always queried how many FC are still around ( although this will only show what made it to the MOT station )

it shows how many failed and how many passed - but i think if it fails it shows and then if it passes it shows

so you could have 20 fails and 20 passes - this could show a total of 20 cars - each failed and then passed

or it could be 40 cars - 20 failed and were taken away never to return and 20 passed no probs - so not sure how you would work it out ( there are some percentages if you were felling fancy and trying to work it out ) - or even taking it the next level - it might fail and then fail again - so thats 2 fail figures for one car .. OK .. my head hurts now

anyways here are the figures : ( pass first number - fail next number - failure rate next  )

1979   3   2   40.0%
1980   4   3   42.9%
1981   7   4   36.4%
1982   6   5   45.5%
1983   16   17   51.5%
1984   37   22   37.3%
1985   34   33   49.3%
1986   30   21   41.2%
1987   15   19   55.9%
1988   31   28   47.5%
1989   76   51   40.2%
1990   80   56   41.2%
1991   36   21   36.8%
1992   320   171   34.8%
1993   169   86   33.7%
1994   121   70   36.6%
1995   81   52   39.1%
1996   39   18   31.6%
1997   21   6   22.2%
1998   13   5   27.8%
1999   15   7   31.8%
2000   8   1   11.1%
2003   3   2   40.0%
2004   4   6   60.0%
2005   0   1   100.0%

( totals ) 1,169   708   37.7%

so at a guess we could take the figures from 86 - i think thats a C reg - which is a EGI ( but might included the FB ) - to 92 - which could also include the FD

51 + 34 + 59 + 127 + 136 + 57 + 491

so thats : 955

now looking at it - i would say that the 1992 figures include the FD

so maybe just taking the 87-91 we get : 413

not bad really.. BUT .. as i said - if it fails and then passes ( which my 1991 did ) then that will show in both columns

Interesting info - where you get that from ?

By the way - wouldn\'t the pre 92 figures also include the FB\'s ?

Would be really good to know just how many FC\'s are still on the road - and where they came from (UK, US, Japan or other) and how many Cab\'s verses Coupes

the ENTIRE list was published under some fredom of information act - just have a search for 2007 MOT on the net - its about a 4mb XLS with every car MOT\'d ( well in groups )

i only found out about it becuase bretts Montrose is on there with only 1 car passing and 1 car failing - he has the failure and the pass sheet for it ( hence we are guessing thats how it works )

Dunno about the fail figures but the pass figures have got to represent the total of running cars at the end of 2007?
The FB pass stats compared with my 1st Gen register figures show a reasonable comparison:-
I have 53 1st Gen runners in 2010, of which about 4 are track cars, not MOT\'d. So say 50.
The 2007 Mot shows 137 in total to end 1986, But remove about 20 of the 1986 cars as being FC\'s equals about 117.
Then I\'ve seen an alarming switch to SORN or broken from taxed and insured in the last few years from 2007. At least 40? (Can\'t extract that figure easily but not far off).
So thanks Stu.....I think it\'s saying there\'s just a few more out there I don\'t know about.....yet.
Off to check the MOT stats as your tip.

Prof

does that mean the earliest reg on an FC is a D reg then ?

Think I\'ve actually seen one !:cool

BTW - latest reg I\'ve seen is a K reg !

I fairly sure 1st Aug 1986 was the Reg change, \'C\' to \'D\'.
I have 3 \'D\' reg FB\'s noted on and just after 1st Aug.

I seem to recall that the FC was launched before August, in the spring of \'86. So that would mean yes, there were \'C\' plate FC\'s, (if I\'m right about the launch date)?

Not sure what the rules are for imports but there will be no UK FDs in the figures until ~95 as we don\'t MOT cars until they are three years old.

David Nock (RIP)

Yeh, but by 2007 all RX 7\'s are in the MOT test.

I fell for that assumption too whilst doing my own sums, then realised it\'s 2007 data that\'s recorded, so it\'s all car years 1st Reg 2004 and previous.

Oh, so it\'s saying that almost 1900 rx7s were MOTd in 2007?  Gotcha.

First UK FC was built Jan 1986. VIN No. of this car was JMZFC132200100711

So yes, first FC\'s would be running round here as \'C\' plates, spring 1986.

I don\'t know why - but I thought the FC would have been realeased to coincide with the new reg - but that makes no real sense - just the way my mind sometimes works - lol.

So I\'m on the \'I spy\' for C plate 2nd gen\'s then :)

Presumably there might even be a chance of a 1st Gen with a D plate then (based on the fact I\'ve seen a K plated FC - which is a 92/93 and well into the first FD\'s being available.  It was on a vert though - and there hasn\'t been a factory roofless FD.

The report makes interesting reading when you look at the number of older cars preserved and passing MOT\'s - it seems that Jap and German marks along with prestige cars seem to be the more reliable statistically.
