I want to sort out the roll and damping of my car for fast road and occasional (3/4 per year) track days.
The choice is  whether to get some cheap JICcoilovers £300 second hand, Tein SS £650 or spend a grand on adjustable dampers, springs and anti-roll bars. My 340 brake FD is already polybushed but the ride/handling is average.
I regularly have a weekend blast on A/B roads and trafford park which is quite bumpy and definitely want a quality but not bone jarring ride.
Any advice and suggested setups gratefully received.:god

I have had a chat with JM garage, its best to go with uprated shocks and springs, It has been suggested that adjustable Koni shocks and Tanabe springs are a good combo, will probably cost about the same as a good set of coilovers, but its worth it :)

Hi Chris-
I bought some Tein Flex Coilovers a few months ago in very good condition, with low miles. I orginally only wanted a slight lower in ride height, but these are a bit too hard for my liking, as I doubt I\'ll ever do a track day.
So they\'re probably for sale, they come with 10front 8kg rear springs or a spare set of 8 front and 7kg rear if you wanted a softer ride.
Would probably want around £650, they cost £1200 new!

Cheers for the offer Charlie but I really want a setup which is more compliant than the standard. Which from what I have researched means uprated dampers and springs. I will research the Type Flex though and they are an option.

CharlieP

Ah ok...when you say more compliant, do you mean close to standard set-up?

when i fitted my tein ss, i put them on the softest settings and they felt exactly the same as stock, so thats an option to you, they come up cheap every so often on here or fduk aswell. then you can adjust dampering until you find whats best for you

I don\'t really find the standard setup compliant. The damping is average, it rolls too much and it would be nice to sit a bit lower. It is just how much I have to pay to get all this. Tein Flex as offered by two people on here and other coilovers will be too stiff I think.
On other cars I have always gone down the other route(adjustable dampers and uprated bushes and anti-roll bars) but it has always been cheaper.
Where can you get these discounted? Or can anyone offer any second hand?
Cheers for the help.

well i bought a set of coilovers for £300 and they had only done 1000 dry miles, maybe i was lucky but they do pop up on here and fduk every so often so just keep an eye out

Depends how much adjustability you need. I\'d vote coilovers for the ease of fitting and the adjust ability. I\'d hate to spend all that money on suspension and not be able to get the right ride height.

Another coilover choice is HSD\'s i belive theyve just released a range at the 550 mark and theres another for around 650. Though the latter will be extremely stiff. They are very highly rated coilovers

There are some Panspeed/Ohlins coilovers for sale on fduk. The seller says that they are a good road setup:

Will these be suitable?

I got some BC coiovers instead. Currently I have the fronts on 20 (out of 30 with 0 being hard) and the rears softer on 12.
What do you reckon to these settings for the road, it is still hardish but I don\'t want the front any softer as it is low with not much tyre clearance due to a 22 wheel offset.
