Just got back from seeing the car so here\'s some more pics . He\'s making the rear wishbones etc from scratch so the car can run decent geometry on the suspension . The lower rear chassis tubes are in position now so next they will make the turrets for the rear coilover shocks . Looking good so far . :cool

A few more pics of the rear end taking shape .

This is the alloy engine to gearbox adaptor plate which is solid mounted into the chassis .

Grant Monkhouse

the adaptor plate looks mint, so does rest of the gubbings!!

what advantage does having the adapter plate mounted to chassis give? stop movement and reduce chance of smashing gear box?

Grant Monkhouse

the gear box looks good with the amount of ribbing/strengthening on it. makes it look alien like.

what box are you using?

600gaz

The alloy adaptor plate and the engine and gearbox are solid mounted into the car as this makes it part of the chassis . Also it stops the casings moving/flexing and should stop them breaking as easy .
The gearbox is a Renault UN1 transaxle . It\'s in lots of things such as Renault alpines , turbo 2 , traffic vans , 25\'s , 21 turbos , Lotus Espirts , etc etc . They are not bad strength wise and quite light and pretty cheap so that\'s why i used one instead of a Porsche one .

I was thinking it looked like a Lotus Esprit \'box, makes sense though.  This is going to be very cool once it\'s working!

Apparently putting details of your car spec in your signature means the nice folks on exile-rotorsport think you\'re a fool.  I can think of no higher compliment!

Yes it should be good hopefully but a long way off yet . At least it don\'t look like scrap anymore , lol .

Awsome build so far. I can\'t wait to see it finished..I have just bought a rust bucket 600 as well and will be doing to 1000TCR look. When you mounted the rear arches, would it cover up any of the rust area\'s? Also where did you source the mini light wheels? Are they 4 x 98?. I am more than likely go for the  Cromodora 7 and 8\'s but will wait till I decide what motor to put in it.

Hi mate . The extended rear arches will cover up the usual rust patches so you can just chop them out too suit your rear wheels . I\'m using a Ford stud pattern but they will drill the wheels too suit any PCD when you order them . Got mine from Midland wheels as they are a Minilite dealer . 9x13\'s cost around £150 each but they sell copies for alot less . :)

Thats how you can get 9\'s! It never occurred to me to change the stud pattern. The replica\'s from midland wheels are quite cheap, I was actually really suprised at how greater value they where , but as usual shipping will kill it.
Thats great news about the arches, means I might save some money on repair panels!

What have you done to front for brakes?

600gaz

lol , that\'s why i had the whole running gear changed and the whole rear end chopped out . The fiat abarth bits would have cost a fortune and it would have still been slow so now i have a custom one off tube chassis with cheap replacement parts for half the price and no rust . :D

Well my time slot is up at the chassis shop so i\'m picking the car up next weekend and bringing it home . He\'s got a few jobs already booked in and then it will be going back down there at the end of the year for the front end to be done etc . He\'s just doing a marathon welding session around all the tube joints and getting it sitting on it\'s wheels before i collect it .
In the meantime i shall be collecting a few more parts for it hopefully . :)
