DR SCHNITZEL

Hi all.

I got some rx7 fd HIDS off e-gay. I found i had to modify the loom in order to get thewires to go through the rubber boot, also one ballast had plugs on which did not fit the lights. the other did, so i cut these and soldered the wires together. Not exactly plug and play as i thought.

I switched the lights on. they came on for a second then went off never to be seen again.

I assume a fuse has gone. Do the HIDS need a bigger fuse in general? Its cold and im not going out until the summer.:Hammer

after noticing the following - think I and most prob would have returned them! ;)

think you\'ve been real unlucky or bought them cheapest of the cheap - I\'ve had 2 sets from Diane-shop ( HK ) and they\'ve been plug n play and not let me down in 2 years?!

Dr S, what fitment are they that you have?
H4 Hi/Low have a relay wire that goes to the battery and also to the box. maybe they left out that wire?
H4 low only, i believe do not have the relay wire and plugs directly into the 3 pin light socket.

H1, HB4 and H7 plugs directly into the light socket with no relay wires and still has the ballast.

well after seeing the above in red i think that may be your problem. it might have blown a fuse, or maybe even the ballast. its worth plugging in one of your old halogens just to check. i\'ve never had to use a bigger fuse, have fitted 2x different hid kits to mine and the current one uses a seperate fuse but thats only for the relay to switch between hi and lo beam, and it was included in the kit.

this is a wind up!
why did you not send it back? now you\'e totally lost any comeback as the person/company is never gonna take a modified unit.

BACK AT YA. Maybe you should have won it for not realising people buy things new and modify them on this forum. Its only 50 quid too. sometimes people make mistakes and take risks for convenience. The lights are probably ok though so what are you talking about.

They are lows only. Wires plug into the ballasts and to the standard plugs. that is all. I cut the wires to solder them.

Thanks for your constructive criticism Rob....NOT.

RobMatthews

what im saying is you should\'nt need to modify a fduking plug and play kit thats why its called plug and play not modify and waste £50 quid.

This is the part where i felt constructive
\'why did you not send it back? now you\'ve totally lost any comeback as the person/company is never gonna take a modified unit.\'

If you have another £50 quid i\'ll send you a box you can modify into some nice wheels.

sorry if you took it the wrong way:King

hids will need a relay for the ballast mate just illiminates the on off cycle if the voltage on the cheaper kits fluctuates alot the ballast turns off or blows as i have seen with cheap china egay ones . i can get all spares for these pretty cheap so if you need help let me know ,
the ones i have are universal plugs and will connect to most bulbs .ie not found a make they dont fit yet .

would like to add before i get but raped by lisa or clive >:P just helping out not making a profit .
and there are hids for sale in mazda rotary s shop ;))

i cant see how u can mess up fitting them lol, bulb plugs in to ballast, then you have a 12v red wire and a black ground, look on the headlight plug on the stock loom, the ground is the black pin (on the right if u look at the plug where the stock bulb plugs in too) then the dipped is the top or middle wire stick the red in there... make sure your battery has charge, try the engine running to make sure and switch the lights on... they should come on there is nothing to go wrong really unless u got dead ballasts...

DR SCHNITZEL

The reason they didnt work i found today is because when i wired them up i didnt earth the ballasts. as i just plugged em in to see of they work. (stupid stupid me). I have earthed them today. but only the side i have butchered works the side with the plugs that fit together work. the other side just flickers. plop. It is easy. No one on here said anything about earthing the ballasts. they dont work if you dont. and one of mine doesnt work anyway. arghhh waste of a morning.

On the flipside my engine has survived winter. I was worried.

batman

i havent earthed out my ballasts on my kit and dont need to ...?

what did you buy lol

yeh... havent earthed mine either...

DR SCHNITZEL

sorry, the side i butchered works, the side i didnt have to butcher doesnt work. arghhhh. fleabay return imminent.

DR SCHNITZEL

honestly, the base of the ballasts needs a strong link to the chassis or the lights dont work. It said nothing about it in the manual either

DR SCHNITZEL

Not sure on the make now as the box has long gone
