Hi All,

New here. Just thought I would upload some pics of my RX7 I just recently bought. It is in need of some quite major repairs as you will see from the pictures.

Would like to hear from anyone who knows the car or anything about it. Also would like to buy a rear quarter if anyone has one.

Already have the front end so really would prefer to change the quarter rather than attempt to repair

Hello and welcome, I think it might be better to re-shell it, there are several shells around and going cheap!

motafix

To be honest a re shell is far too much work. I have an excellent panel beater who says worse case he will repair it but would prefer a secondhand quarter if possible. I do all my own paint work so will paint the red front end I have and then fit it up. That is unless we see anything else on the way.

I only picked the car up on new years eve and it was pouring with rain, I tried to start but battery was flat and my jump pack was not good enough on its own so I will look at it next week if I get time.

Worse case it will go on Ebay as a breaker but I hope I dont have to do that

Speedworks

as far as I can see the rear wheel has been hit and suspendion is twisted. Maybe you can fix it with a new rear subframe. Panel wil be another piece of work as I think the inner panel is twisted too (telling from the hatch)

good luck, but a  re shell isn\'t a bad option there are esveral good ones on here with interior, so less work switching out the important parts (engine etc) than doing frame work

Nik da Greek

That looks very similar to (some of) the damage that wrote my first FD off. Like Speedworks said, I\'d be very surprised if the suspension and or sub assembly isnt bent too, as well as the inner structure round the hatch. Mine certainly was, and if I were you, I\'d be paying close attention to the area behind the door but in front of the wheel. Reckon that might knacker it for you if nothing else does, sad to say, and that\'s before you even get round to the front. Shells are cheap enough, can\'t see it being more work than getting that lot straight

Timmy

Nice to see someone that doesn\'t want to give up on a car but you should be able to pick up a standard auto rx7 like that without a rebuild for £2500.

TRex

Sorry but why would you bother to go through the amount of hassel to put that back on the road... :2Rolleyes

An Auto FD without \'major\'(yours) or any accident damage at all goes for peanuts!
Even if that Car was 1/ FREE, 2/ you have not got a life, 3/you repair it on your own, 4/ you keep it and do not sell it on as it is recorded as heavy damage,  then it \'may\' be an option.

 Good Luck

i say as long as it is repaired safely/properly then go for it, some buys are with the heart instead of the head. If you have the time and patience then thats all that matters really.

Go for it.

(Personally i\'d reshell it because i couldn\'t be bothered to fix it)

Hi am welcome to the club!

You are taking a lot of stick for buying this one,and does sound like you\'ve jumped in head first!
If your skills are good as you say and is only costing you mostly labour then go for it.
Otherwise reshell it,as it would make better money on resale, plenty of dead shells kicking around so change the engine, and break the rest:Giggle

edit; forgot to say you\'ve probably flooded it trying to start it on a duff/flat battery.do a search for deflood procedures.

I\'m tempted to say it might be this car... reported as a write off almost 4 months ago; though yours seems to have more bonnet damage.

your one has it on the wrong quarter also, so I reckon that\'s not the one, sorry.

Yeah, think you\'re right. It was drivers door and rear quarter that were struck.

Repairing salvage cars for a living is what I do. The front end is an easy repair. Quarter is a bit more of a concern. It has slightly damaged the roof pillar on the drivers side but should pull easy enough.

I would prefer a new quarter but we can/will repair the old one if need be.

A re shell will take a long time where as the quarter repair on this can be done in a couple of days or so.

I have a very skilled panel beater who repairs 1 or 2 cars a week for me and if he says it repairable I fully trust him.

I did not pay a fortune for the car so worse case will break it. I only bought it as I had a front end for it sitting in the yard for the last year. It is just something to mess about with and then sell on when I fed up with it.

Well, best of luck with it, then, it\'ll be interesting to see how you get on. Like some others have said, we should applaud your effort in keeping another Rex from the great scrappy in the sky

motafix

When you repair damaged cars every day you look at damage differently. I really dont have the time to re shell as it is not really a profit car so will have to be done on a budget.

I would love to be able to repair cars just for pleasure and to modify etc but I have far too many projects on the go
