yeah, interesting to read \'informed\' comments from people who\'ve read all about them but never actually owned one.
It\'s always \'My mate had one and it was crap\' or \' I knew a bloke who had one..etc...etc.
Probably 90% of people who have actually owned and lived with a 1st gen, loved them.
Many sold them on when they couldn\'t live with the thirst of the engine but still had an affection for them.
Most people that slag them off have never even driven one, let alone owned one.

There loss...............if only I had bought that 3 ltr Capri................not.

I meet a lot of people who used to own them and still have gooey eyes for them. Can\'t say its ever been a bad decision and I\'ve done over 30k in mine in 3 years !

Thirsty, fine on gas when its half the price of petrol :Giggle

The pistonheads SOTW is the best value/best car they have on the site that is under a grand :) else it would be saxos and corsas each week hehe

Yeah, most of the comments are from numbnuts whove never owned one & keep regurgitating the old myths that a rotary needs rebuilding every 30000 miles due to the infamous rotor tip wear,a normally aspirated rotary can last for 130,000 miles plus if maintained.
The few that did own one actually loved them & said G8 fun cars, regretted selling them sometimes for an escort or a golf, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, nodded off:Snoring
A lot of the comments state they love the shape though.

the more i look at a 1st gen the more i want one..
maybe get one when my fc turns into a rust pot and transplant my engine over :)

Don\'t think so Davide, just a bodykit. I noted the car going through ebay and I didn\'t see Elford in the Advertisement then.

I think there is an EGI in the states that is over 200,000 miles now :)

200,000 miles is the most i\'ve heard of.
I had a 79 rex with 126000 on original engine, still produced 126 bhp if my memories correct with a few minor mods, air intake & carb, started hot or cold & pulled well in every gear.
Sure if a rotary is thrashed it\'ll fail before it\'s time, same with any other engine.
the turboed fd engines do only seem to last 70,000 miles approx & though due to the extra stress placed on the engine & the inevitable thrashing they\'ll get.
Interesting to see how long rx8 engines last.
Funny on the pistonheads comments not many so called experts have mentioned the 50/50 weight distribution between front & rear=G8 handling.

Early RX8 engine are failing with 30k miles lol the early renensis engines were devolved and only had 2 oil injectors per rotor, instead of 3 like all the other RX engines, so the seals wear unevenly lol
