philipcurtis

or is there anyone near wrexham that can have a look at it for me might take it to the garage on tue

clive

Hi Philip,

If you have been told the engine ran O/K before being laid up the engine may still be flooded, if it was me I would give it a tow down the road and run it in 3rd gear to see if it will start,

Hope this helps,
All the best Clive

philipcurtis

i tried towing it for a small amount like half mile
i was told it ran ok but stalled at junctions

philipcurtis

how do you know if the ecu has gone

Prof

After cranking - does it smell of fuel ?

In that first vid it looks to be trying to start. So maybe it is flooded. Take the main engine fuse out (egi fuse I think its called) remove the spark plugs and crank it over for a few seconds. Replace thye plugs and fuse and try starting it again. If you can get it going then we may be able to help more.
I don\'t need to upgrade my stock turbo to beat your ass!

Get your finger out, get it on the road and start driving it then!!! (B.Martin 25/2/12)

hummmmmmmmmm............ not to be the bearer of bad news but that sounds pretty much like the one i tried to start that had a bad rotor :(

and you seem to be missing an oil cap by the the looks of it

so a few things to try

1 - remove the EGI fuse and see if it will start
2 - remove the plugs - clean them and put them back in
3 - remove plugs and fuse , crank for 15 seconds to expel the fuel then put stuff back and try again
4 - open boot , remove carpet , remove metal lid thingy , unplug fuel pump - try and start it

you had the car long , where is it from , how long has it been stood etc.. ?

Stu ;)

was there any water in the footwell? or water residue? moist padding under carpet?
b4 i got my fc the window was smashed so water was left to leak into the footwell.
i guess the only way is to change the ecu and try.
when my ecu went it was really hard to start and stalled easy, had to idle at high revs (1500 revs ish) else would stall.

i have a spare ecu which i\'d offer to post to you, if you cover postage, to try but not sure when i\'ll get it back. :(

might be worth taking the ecu out and looking at the inside of it

mine still had water in it - which was a clear sign it was dead !!

although mine made really wierd clicking noises when you turned the key ( not starting - just so that the dash lights up ) - so thats another indication !

See what pressure the fuel pump is pumping out, you seem to have good spark so looks like down to fuelling or the control of it ie ECU. Make sure you wires at the CAS are good as that has let me down before on the orange one. They looked good but very brittle underneath. Only found out when it broke down by the AA man along with my Apexi/datalogit having no RPM signal. If its been sat a while then it may well be a sticky apex seal causing low compression, might be worth your while getting a compression check to put your mind at ease and at least illiminate one probable cause.

has it got fresh fuel (I seem to have a bee in my bonnet about this at the mo...)  You will need to ensure the fuel is good, as much as anything else...
