The bummer is it\'s right after my rebuild. I\'m out of MOT and tax. So... I can\'t get some miles on it to run it in before the test. Bit of a catch 22. I\'m thinking I might end up booking it in with somewhere in scotland, but I\'ve no idea what the road laws are apart from \'to a pre-booked MOT\'

On the plus side I\'m only failing on idle CO being juuuust over the limit. 3.7 is pretty damn close to a pass.
It\'s a stock UK car, still running air pump, pre-cat and cat, with stock air filter.
At this point I\'m assuming it\'s lacking a little bit of compression because the seals haven\'t had any proper miles to bed in properly, because it sails through the high idle test.
The only thing I wonder about it the absence of the EGR system, which had been removed before I bought it, but it passed 2 tests before on the original engine like that.
Any thoughts? I\'m off to the chemist to see if I can get some denatured alchohol for the retest tomorrow ;)

just change your oil and air filter and give it a thrash on the way to get the cat nice and hot...

can drive it as far as you like so long as your going to a pre booked m.o.t

has it been remapped since the rebuild?

Can\'t really thrash till she\'s got some miles from running in, and she\'s on the stock ECU or I\'d had pulled some fuel from the idle area of the map. Hopefully the old ethanol trick gets her through tomorrow though.

Double check that she\'s been put through the correct tests. Its a major source of issues with us!

What year is she? Import or UK?
Work hard, play hard house :D

It\'s the correct test - pre 95, 3.5% CO. She\'s a 93 UK.
Passed yesterday with no problems at all. I\'ve got a gunson gastester thing, so I set that up and had a play.
I found that by adjusting the balance between the throttle stop screw and bleed valve on UIM I could dial the mixture around until it started behaving properly. Quick double check the TPS values were still in range and off to the MOT station again, and she passed the idle test at 1.4%. 3000rpm CO was negligable. HC\'s are pretty good too.
One thing I noticed is that she runs .05 bar lower vacuum on idle after adjustment, and the throttle\'s more responsive from idle. A worthwhile adjustment all round!
Cheers guys.
