Someone put my written-off car back on the road

So I mourned the loss of my first Rex only to find someone salvaged it and put it back on the road!

Now for sale on pistonheads - although I\'m slightly dubious as I enquired with the seller and he said he wasn\'t aware that the car had ever been written-off / repaired. hmmmm.:2Confused

yeah its quite common. i written off my vx220 in 2003 and caused 10000 pound plus worth of damage. someone then bought it from an auction for 6k a few month later for spares and repairs, as the aluminium chassis was folded and crumpled. Last year i checked the reg on the mot, tax and insurance databases and its back on the road! still on the road now. quite worrying.

He could probably sell it easier and for a bit more if he had all of the original service history since it was imported including the evidence of rebuild etc.

...which I just so happen to still have filed away!

Doesn\'t look like it was badly damaged? was it only coosmetic.

The assessor put a figure of £9K on the repair (obviously that was a bit ott) and they gave me back what I\'d paid for the car (£4.5K) but it wasn\'t just cosmetic - the rear subframe was bent and it needed a fair bit of bodywork but I expect it was probably a bargain to someone who could have done most of the work themselves and source the parts cheaply.

The assessor would have priced the repair using brand new Mazda parts so would write it off straight away.  The parts to repair that second hand would be next to nothing (I have probably thown away bits like that from breakers!)

That wasn\'t too bad, repairing that with painting you would have done it for about £300 doing it yourself! subframes are cheep as chips, then it\'s a slide hammer on the rear wing, bit of body filler, then throw some paint at it!

Not the Insurance assessor who Quotes the repair,  You will find the Bodyshop you took it to will have not wanted the job ? Scared of it (Alarm bells often go off with Enthusiasts cars on rare cars) so they put every Clip on the estimate and piled on the hours to kill it off so they didn\'t have to repair it. Often the Insurers want the claim sorted quick if you go to a accident management company (Help hire for example) this can nearly dubble a Repair cost in Hire charges.

Now did you know you can ask the Assessor if you can supply used parts (suspension etc) it happens all the time at our place when an Owner wants to keep a car, once you say that to them they often up there valuation of the car a little to help you keep it on the road (as long as its not 9k repair on a 5k car that is)
