I thought I\'d spend Friday replacing the fuel filter on my FD, and if I had time, replace a few of the old \'rubber\' hoses with new silicone ones.

Well, I first found out why they say replacing the fuel filter is a time consuming, and pain in the butt job: cos it is! It took a good2 hours to do, all in all. However, it really does help if you have the right tools for the job. A good percentage of my time was spent trying to take the last clip off the fuel line, but didn\'t have a pair a pliers quite wide enough to slacken the clip off. But, eventually, I managed it! Phew, me thinks! A good job, well done to me!! :D

So, after a short break, me thinks: I\'ll take the throttle body off, and then the intake exentension manifold so that I can have a general poke about in the inards! I can certainly say that it\'s complecated down in there! Lots of pipes, solenoids, and other stuff! How on earth do people trouble shoot that stuff!! Well, anyway, after being amazed and the complexity of it all, I removed the wastegate solenoid, and the one next to it (Pre-control...can\'t remember!) by actually snapping what was, the rubber hoses! Some careful removal of the old hoses (I have heard that it\'s possible to snap the solenoid nipples if you\'re not careful!) and replaced them with nice, brand new, silicone hoses! Beautiful I say to myself - great improvement.

Now, to put it back together again! Shouldn\'t be too dificult. Replacement is a reversal of taking it apart. I though I\'d clean up the throttle body gasket, and the extension manifold gasket, and plonk it all back together, and it\'d be hunky dory again! Oh, how wrong I was! After spending probably about 2 hours putting everything back, and being generally pleased with myself for managing it too, I start the ol\' girl back up!

To cut a long story short (Too late, I hear you say!), she barely started, idled badly, and stalled as I drove her out of the drive due to serious lack of power! Fortunately, the only thing it can be, is an air leak in the manifold (Confirmed by the -0.2 bar at idle, rather than the more normal -0.4). So, she\'s off the road until I can get some replacement gaskets for her. doh!

Oh well, at least I haven\'t done any permanent damage.......:D

Yeah, I used this:

http://www.robrobinette.com/fuel_filter_replace.htm>Fuel filter Instructions

It\'s basically pretty simple, just a right pain cos of where it is. I suggest getting it jacked up as high as possible just to make life that bit more simple. I ended up craning my head up almost the entire time, so ended up with neck ache the following day!

I\'ll check the vacuum lines, but I\'m pretty sure they\'re all ok.

cool thanks for the info i wish i had those instructions before the long holiday so i could have done it then.....

hope you get it sorted i am pretty sure its a vacuum line.
