I was driving home last night and was driving the rex (FD3S) hard when i heard a big backfire. and suddenly lost power.  i could acclerate but the car would shake like it was a v12 shaking before the gas would be released. Anyway decided to open the car up today and powered her up and the engine is shaking and sounds horrible. the car will not drive smoothly and constanly sounds like it going to turn off. Can anybody advise what i need to check. There is no white smoke from the exhaust and no other visual idicators of any issues.

hmmm thats not sounding good dude.  if you can bring her round the i can check few things.  .it could be something simple.

Firstly =- check the pipe ot the MAP sensor on the firewall - it\'s a small balck box about 1" by 1/2" mounted behind the throttle body - has a pipe with an inline filter going to it and the one pipe, and one electrical connector going to it. Check the pipe/hose to this is conencted at both ends.

If it is, then start to worry. If not, then plug it back in, and see how you get on.
