Well finally got an rx7 after wanting one since they first came out!

I didnt realise how hard the suspension was for a standard car, alot like my r5 turbo on konis, really feels like a gokart and when that second turbo kicks in it all goes manic! driving it home really felt like an event, got little kids giving me the thumbs up which was funny aswell:)

Here are a few pics of it

these ones ive just taken on my rubbish w910i to give you an idea

Got a few questions if thats ok, what oil pressure should they be at hot/cold when stationary and driving etc?

also there seems to be alot of coilover kits avaliable for the fd, any recommendations, will be mostly road with the odd track day

thanks

Don\'t pay any attention to the stock oil gauge. Common fault for them to be dodgy.

Hi and welcome to the club :wave
There are a lot of kits available for the suspension.
I\'ve got Tein Super street coilovers on mine and they are quite firm even on the soft settings.
Cant see all your pictures for some reason but nice looking standard car you have. Paint doesn\'t look to of faded too which can happen a lot on the red cars :D

welcome to the club and great looking FD, makes a big difference to the look having a different numberplate, looks good :)

Looks lovely. I have two of those wheels on the back now :rollin

Welcome :) your description of your first drive pretty much sums up owning an RX-7.  You\'ll never tire of it even when it breaks down.  People will stop and turn their heads, children tug on their dads trouser legs and point.  I learnt virtually everthing from this forum so make use of the search button and the friendly people.

Stock oil pressure sender and gauge are cack and if that bothers you get an aftermarket set up.  It\'s probably better to get Tein Mono Flex as they are a better upgrade and in car adjustable for a little extra.

Enjoy it and be careful!

ok thanks for everyones input on the oil pressure, its done 47000 miles so i know it wont be long from when it needs a rebuild, but at the minute i just cant stop looking at it and smiling!

Only issue i have now is im 6ft3 so this weekend ill be drilling the runners out to get a bit more room then saving for a new smaller steering wheel.

Any suggestions where to get the boss for one. Oh yeh, thank you for the tein ideas, i did think them myself, just need to look around for the best price now

fil_auto

welcome on board bud, good looking ride..... always nice to see another red rex.... #;o)

get a compression test done....... you never know you may be surprised and not need the rebuild yet?!

turbotoaster

well it was tested when in 2006 at 61000km it read 106psi on the front rotor and 100psi on the rear, its done 13000km since then(3 years) so hopefully it will be ok, never have a problem starting it and theres no smoke so fingers crossed for it.

ive got a compression tester at my grandads house, will it work for rotaries, as it states for pistons but id imagine it would work, or does it have a special one?

fil_auto

Poss good news then ......... and nope you need a special rotary one coz there\'s 3 chuffs from each housing ..... think you can get it done for about 25 notes.....

Welcome and all that :Thumbs-up! Like Fil says, nice to see another red one (though mines a sorta red/pink/orange combo, like they tend to go after a while). Yours looks nice and tidy. I see you\'ve already discovered the age-old conundrum of "where the hell do you put the front number plate on an FD RX-7" :3Confused!

haha, well it was tough where to put it, i dont think its in a bad place, though the police keep giving me evil looks, not sure if its the plate or the popping and banging the exhaust does at pretty much all times.

Its still kept its red which is nice, the only bit is the rear spoiler which has started to fade but apart from that ive been lucky.

Did the seat modification on the runners tonight after reading it on here, what a difference that made! i can actually drive it for more than 10mins in comfort, my knees dont sit on the steering wheel now, i could go back further but the seat is now touching the back seats so they would have to go.

just wondering is it possible to have both turbos kick in at the same time, ie non-sequencially instead of the 4.5k \'vtec kicked in yo\' type occurance?

leon

Welcome to the club mate!

Looks a stunning car, as for the engine yeah they require rebuilds eventualy. As said get a compression test done and you may be surprised! My "unknown" history engine was still going strong 2 years later after purchase and that was driven daily! It only failed from water seal failure!

I loled at your Vtec kicked in yo! - Yes you can modify the turbo\'s so that they come in sequentialy.

The oil gauge is a funny one, usually it will dance all over the place with weak earths i found when driving (should be steady) but when stationary the oil pressure will read almost nil.
I woof in your general direction.

turbotoaster

yeh, thats the thing that worried me, at idle when hot it would only be about a bar of oil pressure which wasnt alot, so which it being a rotary i wasnt sure about, but goes to about 4bar on boost so i think it will be ok.

Im thinking of taking it up to WGT next month when i get paid, get it checked over from top to bottom and get a power run to see what shes pushing, id imagine around 260-270bhp, also ask about the non-sequential bit
