hello people, what temps should my fd be running?? oil and water, just fitted 2 gauges and first off i knew the standard water temp gauge was a bit vague didnt realize how vague lol!!

so yeh what oil and water temps should i be running?? i.e a general temp for just cruising and say a max temp?? its a type r so with twin oil coolers if that makes a diff...

Timmy

88c for water oil runs 65-75c cruiseing. You also get a bit varyation depending on where you take your temps from.

MaLicE

thats ok then, i thought the oil temp at around 65-75 was a little low but guess not lol, had me worried for a bit :) and my water temp sits around 80-90 when driving/sat in traffic :) thanks timmy!

Timmy

The oil temp starts to go up quite quickly when you put your toe down.

its when your oil temp crosses 90 you should start to consider backing off ;)
Where have you tapped in to get your readings?? the most accurate place is the sump aparantly, but I\'m seeing temps of about 60c from an oil filter sandwedge plate.

sandwich plate for the oil temp... and also oil pressure if i ever get the gauge lol, oh and water temp i put in the rad hose thats under the air box, and goes to the top of the rad...

thought my water temp gauge was broke, then it started working and realised there was a stat to open first lol...

hee hee...

I\'ve got pretty much the same set-up, then. Water in the top hose and a sandwich plate on the oil filter. Oil rarely goes above 70-ish even on hot/enthusiastic days. If the water heads north from 90, I put the aircon on for the double-speed fan trick thing. Water temp is usually pretty good, though, only gets hotter if stuck in traffic for ages

90 degrees for oil is fine, start backing off at over 105 if you have decent oil.  After market oil thermostats dont open until 80.  People in the know will tell you oil doesnt work properly until 80.

your stock oil coolers have thermostats in them, they work in a smilar way to a water stat, they are 15 years old and never get changed so like a water stat open earlier as they get old which is why your oil temps are a little cooler than stock.

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

water temp wise :

About 77 - 85oC while driving - 90 - 100oC in traffic.

If the water temp goes over 120oC you could conclude seal damage.

my oil never goes above 75c and thats only in traffic, it genrally sits between 50-60c. Im using twin oil coolers on a single tub setup.

Water is about 88c with a large alloy rad.
