I think we must be alike, Im not much of a speed, octane and nitrus fan, I too prefer the classic side of motoring,

Hey Don, dont let Ian fool you, hes got a 400bhp daily driver and that 7 wont hang about when the turbo is on :D

I love 240z\'s, very nice indeed.
Didnt they do a V8 version in South Africa ?

don wyatt

Im not sure about that, but there were plenty of V8 conversions of the 240z, mainly in the states, with the Chevy lump dropped in after a few alterations. As with all experiments of this type, its pretty pointless unless everything else is upgraded too.

I think classics are ruined once you start transplanting. I would change cosmetics, but thats it for me, you lose too much character otherwise.
My 240z, with a six branch stainless sounded fantastic.

I think we must be alike, Im not much of a speed, octane and nitrus fan, I too prefer the classic side of motoring, I must show you guys some pics of my Datsun 240z, which ws a total rebuild project cost me a small, sorry, a large fortune, but apart from a colour change, remained original format.

No guys I didnt buy the one on ebay, cheap thats for sure, but mileage ? had to have been round the clock I think. Also I am a bit wary of those that have been under the welders torch, once the rot sets in, theres no stopping it.

Welcome Full Member - wouldn\'t have thought there are many RX7s remaining not to have had some degree of welding through their life.  These cars are up to 30 years young remember and any underseal applied at the factory doesn\'t appear to have been that effective - so beware Don of the dreaded rust monkeys, they are alive and well.
In saying that, even now good preparation during restoration is the main issue in fighting corrosion which does give life back to fatiguing body panels.  Judging from you minatures you\'ve probably got that covered.

So if you didn\'t bid on TRH, could this mean we might have more new blood swelling the ranks?

I\'d guess there\'s maybe 10 rust free original fb\'s left, with not even a single bubble on them, not many.

Love to see just one of them!

I doubt if there are even that many, if any. Even a car like MAZ1986 isn\'t perfect cosmetically and Dave Collins has stated that if it weren\'t for preserving the originality, he\'d have it blown over.
As for the welding, I reckon that even if a cars hasn\'t been welded yet, it will soon need it. We all know about the weakness in the rear trailing arm pick up points with loading stresses cracking the mounts and even a well maintained, unabused car like GUS still had to be done.
There might be some totally original, untouched minters overseas but left in the UK?...

don wyatt

TMX could be that car guys couldn\'t it ? I certainly hope so, but the odds are against it, because of the shear reality facts of age.

I have a feeling TMX has led a garaged existance which will help, if it has been given an airing regularly.
Im clutching at straws and hoping its a minter guys, building up my little fantasies, wishing and a hoping...as the song goes.

Don.

all will be revealed, if its full of rot, it will stay there, and who knows where it will end up

Don

Ian65

I doubt it will be full of rot but you need to check the rear trailing arm pick up points carefully.... not a deal breaker but maybe a negotiating point?
They all crack here eventually, even the most well looked after cars...

Thanks Ian, so I need to look under the back Seat area, and behind the rear wheel for this issue. Daves pics on that thread are really useful.
Cheers Ian.

If it looks iffy, I may rerserve judgement for a more experienced guy.
presumably if rot is evident here (depending on the levels) it would not go through a ticket ? or what ?

No, any corrosion within 300mm of a mounting point is a fail. I\'ll send you some info on this later to help you check the car over.

captainbizzaro

Just don\'t be scared to have a good poke thats all because even the most solid looking car can be hiding rot under decades of underseal etc. Like Ian said the majority of it is fixable it just might be a bargaining point thats all.
