Good luck Ramo, Mine was olny laid up for 11 yrs, but took alot longer than 1 month to get back on the road, mind you most of that was getting parts, and carb problems. Once again good luck and lets hope its ready for Brooklands.

Looks very smart,i think you,ve done well.
Quite a few of these cars seem to of been laid up for 7 + years,so hopefully you won\'t find the dreaded rust.
You\'ll need to keep 1 foglight for mot or it is possible to relocate into rear light lens.
There seems to be more 1st gen owners on this forum now.
Good luck recommissioning your rex.:bandit

David the new reg for this car is shown under "Members chit chat"

Thanks Dibs, entered it under it\'s old \'A\' reg and noted its personal plate in my \'Changed Registrations\' section....(you have to have one of those as well as road runners, SORNs, unknowns, known scrappers, probable scrappers, and also cars gone abroad outside of UK and Ireland.....no wonder I\'m bushed after ever logging session).

Quote from: captainbizzaro;678490Nice one chap, and welcome-the 1st gen section is expanding rapidly which is great news. Have you much to do on her? Would be good too see you at brooklands we\'re trying to get as many FB\'s there as possible.

Thanks for the words of support guys!

It is my first Rotary as well, but fear not - I grew up around many people who owned them and are aware of the pitfalls. My brother in law has a \'79 S1 with a 12a bridge and Webers and a mutual friend with a full house 13bt but same age.

Work on this as I see it will be the following:
Brake hydraulics + general nose around.
Clutch Hydraulics
All oils and fluids, upgrade the ignition with better coils and new bits and convert to DLIDFIS (got a new old stock rotor cap £7 on ebay yesterday!)
Wiper motors front and rear seem reluctant to work
Door window motors are slow, but ill clean the contacts and see how I go
Passenger door does not open....
Exhaust is original, and therefore not great (only the back box is blowing though)
Suspension is predictably not brilliant after sitting so long
Steering is heavy - ill adjust the box and see, but maybe its just cause I am too used to power steering?
Coolant and heater hoses shot.

Good bits:
Body is fantastic
Wheels refurbed
Radiator is good
Tyres are good
Interior is great - 63,800 on the clock
Main thing - the engine starts first time and idles well!

Main issues are going to be parts supply.

Hydraulic cylinders, hoses and exhaust system all needed. Im looking for headers mainly as the rest will be off the shelf universal stuff - can anyone help?

Cheers.

Hi Steve, Welcome. I remember it....was in Wales. Silver/Lime Green front.

Forgive me but I listed it as a possible parts car. Are you going to do it up? In which case I\'d be very pleased to change listing to runner.

Thanks mate, i\'d be very interested.

Getting exited as tomorrow is the first time I get to play with the car.

Hope the rain clears..

Most,if not all of the parts you\'ll find from various sources,eg coolant hoses,i\'m pretty sure mazda still do,another guy needed top & bottom hose.

The main thing is the body & chassis are ok.

Windows/silicone spray all rubber channels 1st,then suspect the switches if not ok.
My windows were painfully slow, now they whizz up & down after silicone spray.

What is DLIDFIS in your previous post?

If its just back box blowing i\'m sure you could get a replacement from rotechnics or wgt etc.

Wipers slow on front, could be just the rails need lubrication.

I\'ll do me best to hinder you,the others will be of indespensable use to you!

Thanks for the tips stu, was going to give that a go - bit of lube never hurt!

I have been out of the car scene for a while since getting company cars, but got dragged into it helping my mate who bought himself a MK2 GTi and wanted to make it faster - one thing led to another and we are going a bit crazy with it. Now that I am getting my hands dirty again I thought a clean RX7 would be a nice classic toy to treat myself to something I have always wanted.

Sorry to post a link from another forum, but it has some good photos of what we are doing. And, hopefully I may be able to hinder some of you guys with some general automotive assistance in exchange for the model and Rotary specific stuff which Im running a bit blind on.

As for DLIDFIS - Dual Leading Ignitor, Direct Fire Ignition System - easier starting, smoother running, few more bhp and possibly an mpg or 2. I have been looking for cheap upgrades and it seemed pretty straight forward and worthwhile since Im back to a carb for the first time in 12 years or so :)
