Other causes of waterseal fail symptoms.

Hey guys. Pulled my engine and got it cracked last weekend just been cleaning all the housings up and I have not found a single one with a cracked or broken water journal :mad: All the seals looked to be intact too the only notable thing was they actually were gunked in places (normal?)

What else may cause a similar symptom as waterseal failure? is it even possible for the turbo\'s to leak like this or may the leak be on the exhaust side of things?
