Hi everyone,

Ive been trying in vain to replace my knackered alternator with a new one but cant seem to get the thing off the engine. Can get all the bolts off and it moves around a little but not enough for me to take the belt off and take the alternator out. Urgently need this done and was wondering if anyone would like to lend me a hand? I can offer a fair few pints in return??? Im based in Harrow.

Remove the main pivot bolt on bottom left of alternator. remove small bolt on right hand side and also the bolt pointing vertically. Tap the alt with hammer downwards and prise belt off. Wiggle it off the engine. P O P

If you can\'t do this. Sell your car immediately lol

There is a special Bush that pulls up against the mounting point making it tight. You may need to undo the adjuster out of the way and thats connected to a bolt on the waterpump and the other near to the oil filler neck.

If its being a complete pain a small prybar or big screw driver helps to lever it off the pivot point.

Hey guys, thanks for the help. Managed to do the above but im finding the alternator isnt dropping down enough to prise the belt off.

How much is the alternator supposed to drop down by?

It should drop down till it touches the top of the waterpump. It should be completely loose. Have you taken the adjuster all the way out ?? I have fun with mine but its because its the only thing on the belt and is a tight fit.
