Ive owned my RX7 fd for about 5 months now I love it, except the terrible fuel consumption and my boost probs I sometimes get. My engine has reached the 60k mile mark it still seems to run fine tho and the engine is completely standard even standard air filter and exhaust.

I have been looking into the cost of a rebuilt 13b and single turbo kit, I am after getting around 400hp from my 7.

I have also looked into the 2jzswap.com 1jzgte swap, I have worked out the cost of the complete kit with all parts plug and play at £3000 exc post and vat/duty then i need to source an engine with a r154 manual 5sp tranny. The website claim that the motor adds 60kg to the front of the car and a modified bonnet is required due to engine height. I am told the conversion kit does fit a RHD car. The best 1jz to get imo is the 1996+ 2.5vvti single turbo unit i think its 285bhp standard.

Quoted from the website forum
"Ok guys, here is a quick rundown of all the things you will need for the conversion, All of these items can be purchased in one spot.... www.tech2motorsports.com

Swap kit
JZ engine set your choice of tranny
Wiring Service
Intercooler kit
Radiator Kit
Hose kit
PS kit
Dakota Boxes for Speedo and Tach
A/C is optional but is best to opt for it when the wiring is being done!
All pricing is available on the website and there are many other lil things you may or may not need to complete your swap. This is just a base list to get your swap in the car.

I always reccomend that you service the engine before you put it in, ie seals and gaskets. Better to do it before you put it in.

Search, this was posted not so long ago. and not so long ago the time before that :2Confused

If you want a 1jz get an old supra.

Timmy

I think this was asked just a few days ago, anyway the short of it was why put in a 1jz when a 2jz isn\'t much different nd why put in a 2jz when a ls series v8 has more power and gives better weight distribution.

I did do a search on here for 2jzswap, 1jz, and supra engine swap but only got one post with not much info in. I dont want a 1jz I want a reliable, fast, fairly good mpg rx7 as its a daily driver. I dont know what mpg you guys get but £5 per 30min of carefull driving is what I get. The ls engine must almost be as light as the 13b then if the 1jz is only 60kg heavier thats good for 5.7 v8. I don\'t think id go for the ls as the fuel prob would be the same.

Timmy

60kg thats like haveing a small cow stuck in you front bumper.
The ls will use little fuel when driven normaly the car will move on tickover.
1 or 2 jz\'s are also pretty close to as thirsty as a 13b.

After seeing the 2jz on the driftworks car I was completely gobsmacked. Either option would be awesome IMO. Arn\'t the 2jz guys in the states the ones getting the best results? I remember reading some stuff on rx7club about them trying to catch up with the 2jz peeps?

No way my 2JZ turbo supra defo uses less than my 7.

The 2jz imo would be the best for high hp and good torque, but really like the look of the 1j especially the vvti unit which had yamaha help develop it. I dunno if id do it just looks a good option.

Just been looking at a thread on rx7club
http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=681469&page=7
Looks like the steering rack gets in the way unless you either lift the front of the engine and have a big bonnet mound or you have to remove the firewall and place the engine further back.
Does anyone know if these are also issues with the ls1 or 1jz conversions?

hi all

im actually getting a few bits together for this conversion. Ive managed to get a 1jz non vvti 2.5tt engine, a v161 supra getrag gearbox (may go for R154 instead), just looking for a shell then will order some bits from 2jzswap.com / tech2motorsports

any advice would be much appreciated

i have looked at this conversion and was going to do one but the ls always comes out on top, the 1/2jz is a very very good engine, but its long and heavy, and by the time you have brought the turbo upgrade (which you will do) the intercooler, etc it works out more than a ls package, and is heavy over the front  which may or not bother you,you need to add a bonnet to the price as a ls fit under a std bonnet. i notice they use a torque arm set up on to the back of the gearbox with a joint which is not the best set up, it puts a piviot into the middle of the drive line (i know its how i did my first one). i am not anti this motor it does make a good car but add up all the costs before you choose,

I remember one of these on the front cover of an American mag somthing like 10 years ago so thats where your going to find info,

There was one in a franchised article to most of the Brit mags a few months back, yellow one done under the banner of IIRC something imaginative like "1jzswap.com" or somesuch. Why the hell you\'d want to, I dunno
