Like the title says guys, I\'ve made my own one of these:
http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=342309

They say it fits on to the radiator cap (on a normal cooling system) but on the FD would you fit it to the AST or the main filler by the air pump??

I\'m thinking the AST at the mo!?!?!?!

i would say the cap on the top of the engine as thats the highest pointand the most likely where the air will go.

Jono FD3

but the AST is the Air Seperation Tank....

But you shouldn\'t remove the cap of the AST instead fill the system from the top of the engine, so with that in mind I\'d also say the engine.  Total bloody guesswork I\'m afraid though.

well i have never come across anyone using the ast to fill there system up from. i put a new rad in mine 2 months ago and didnt touch the ast.

i filled from the top of the engine put a couple of litres of mix in then started the car and on idle slowly added more mix left the cap off as it got warm pumped the pipes that go to the rad to make sure the air got out. topped up mix then put the cap on and put it on a high idle for a few seconds at a time until the fans cut in waited for them to stop twisted cap a little (not removing it) with a rag over it to see if the mix bubbled out(it did) took it for a quick 5 minute run checking the temp gauge and heater (switched to hot) came back let the car stand for a while then once the pressure had dropped took the cap off and refilled to level. checked it at the weekend and its still at level now.

ive used this method on loads of cars and never had an issue (i touched some wood as i typed that)

Yea, I see what you are saying, It\'s just I did that and the car still refuses to get up to anything remotley normal on the water temps!! All I\'m seeing is 58 - 60c!! even if I let it idle & warm up to 85c when I drive away the coolant temp just plumits to the above temp with in 3 miles!!!!!!!!!!

SiH

Stupid question, but are you sure the Coolant Temp Sensor isn\'t ****ed?

Dodgy sensor? the fact that the temperature is changing would suggest the system is working??

The important sensors need to be changed during the tuning/maintenance process anyway so fit a new one in a better place? nice gauge too :)

OE Gauge + OE Sensor = What temperature is the coolant this week? sort of thing.

Temps are correct guys... The temp is being read through the commander & I have an infa red handheld thermomiter & it is saying exactly the same temp as the commander inside (give or take 1c)

you in the artic?? lol.
Seriously tho id say use it from the cap above the engine not the ast. The highest point usually gives the best results in my experience. Is you system flowing corectly? I.e are there any blockages that is stopping the hot liquid reach the sensor?
Wierd this one, 1st time i\'ve hear of temps too low on an fd.
:Laugh LOL

Just cut the bottom off a pop bottle and stick it in the filler neck.

When refilling you should start by filling at the ast and when it won\'t take any more fluid bung the cap on and carry on the the filler neck.
