Hi this is mainly for those of you with your Cylinder capacity down as 2616cc and may help with insuring your rotary from the 20th Oct.  This will enable to use some of the cheaper insurance companies that previously wouldn\'t give a quote because cars registered as 2616cc weren\'t on the Code 44 database.

I\'ve left names out as I\'m not sure about putting peoples names on the net and legal implications and all that.

Its taken some time, a lot of letters, phone calls and emails but hopefully it will help others insure there rotaries for a lot less.

QuoteMr ?????,

Further to our recent communications, I have now looked into this in greater detail.  It would appear that Mazda Motor Corporation in Japan reached an agreement with the UK authorities, as far back as the early 1970\'s, regarding the declaration of the rotary engine capacity.  This agreement was indeed 2616cc, and nothing available to me internally suggests that this was ever anything different.
DVLA are unable to provide any data to dispute this.

I believe that the ABI Code 44 database was set up incorrectly when making provision for the import of RX-7\'s from Japan, which is where the 2354cc originated from.

I have spoken at length with senior people in the insurance industry, and they have agreed to change the code 44 database to reflect the true engine capacity as 2616cc.

These changes will be communicated to all insurance companies on the 20th October.

This should alleviate the problems you have with the difference in values between your V5 and your insurance documentation.  Should you require further assistance on this issue, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards

Does this mean all RX-7 will be registered as 2.6 not 1.3 with the dvla from the 10th or does this just mean the insurance companys?
:Laugh LOL

According to the DVLA and Mazda Japan all rotaries brought into the UK should be classed as having a 2616cc.  Although a lot of people still get there cars through as 1308cc and fair play to them.  I tried to get my car reclassified but the DVLA will take your word if your increasing the engine size but not if you are decreasing it.

My post is regarding the Code 44 insurance database, where an imported RX7 is only put down as a 2354cc unless its an automatic and then you have the option of insuring it as a 2616cc too.  There aren\'t many people with 2354cc on their V5 which means technically they aren\'t insured unless they have an agreement with their insurance company, although some insurance companies will only insure cars that are on the code 44 database, the like of green light for example.   So for those that have there car registered as a 2616cc this should help them get cheaper insurance, and for those that have there car as a 1308cc it won\'t affect them as that will still be on the Code 44 database if it was already there.
