As per the title, really. Sorry if this is, like, a real gumby question, but is it possible to clean the filters on an Apexi induction kit, and if so, what would I use? Mine are starting to look black and extermely disreputable, can\'t be good for airflow. I belive they\'re dry, so don\'t need oiling afterwards, is this the case, too?

Ta vurrah much!

I have the same query..

Was just gonna pull mine out and give them a rub down with a brush, but reckon there\'s a more techinal answer to this!!  :D

I reckon you\'re right! So what is it then? Someone must know

I don\'t want to have a go at washing them just to have them dissolve into a great big mungie!

Well i suppose this guide will do. It\'s for a K&N, but a filter is a filter right? Link is a download for a 5 minuit mp3.

yeah, i would treat it like a k&n. Clean it then oil it as per the k&n recommendations.

The Apex\'i air filters are not supposed to be oiled the are a dry-type filter, they are "supposed" to be maintenace free. With the dry types the best way to clean them is litterally fairy liquid and hot water. Then a nice five minute blast with the hair dryer.
Lil-Steve is.... loving it when a plan comes together.

I bought the K&N filter cleaner kit, it contains a cleaner bottle and an oil bottle. only used the cleaner not the oil.
I got mine in the shower and blasted them from in side out and left it running hot for a while.
You will be amazed at how much dirt comes out.

That reminds me, i should probably do my k&n!

Lil-Steve

After about 20,000 miles on my old Supra the Apex\'i s looked like they had been a coal mine since the late 19th centuary.

10mins later with a bowl of hot water and fairy liquid they were nice and clean and my hands were soft to boot! :)

Cheers, guys, especially Lil Steve. Nice to know someones actually done it without knackering them. Also good to know I was kinda right about them not needing oiling. I\'m sure I remember reading somewhere that that\'s why they\'re good on, like, Skylines where the MAF sensor\'s really close to the filters and gets knackered by sucking the oil off them. Finally, nice that i can get my knackered, hairy-knuckled train driver\'s Wookiee  paws all soft and lovely with the all Fairy Liquid (tm)! :Thumbs-up

You should not clean apexi filter. At the most you can blow them out using a compressor and a blow gun. Once they\'ve done 30k i think, it\'s time to change you can buy just the filter part.

Nik da Greek

Bugger! I was happy until you came along! :Giggle Is that true? Dunno who to believe now! They cost about eighty quid for the filter elements, which is a lot to spend when you can buy a bottle of Fairy for less than a quid

Timmy

Thats what the instructions say from memory. I don\'t know what will happen if you try washing them but i would say there is a good chance it will damage it, i would say £80 is not that bad considering they last 30k. Like i said tho if they aren\'t to bad you\'ll be surprised how much crap you can get out with a blow gun.

^^^ what he said - the filters are disposable. DO NOT clean/oil them with K+N stuff, it will make them fall apart, possibly into your inlet tract!:(
Same goes for the HKS mushroom ones.
