Dam these clutches!

I just spent an hour trying to get the thing to dissenguage and it seems to be stuck solid!

I have got the inspection cover open and tried 1 & 2 screw drivers up there to push the collar in and it just isn\'t moving.

I have watched the youtube video and the collar seems to push in very easy on that but mine just isn\'t going anywhere!

Am I doing something wrong? Anyone got any tips? Thought this should be the easy bit! :spank:Giggle

i assume you are either taking the engine out or changing the clutch...why not just unbolt the pressure plate from the flywheel...6 bolts

Ricco_04

You know I never even gave it a thought.  It looked so easy on the videos

Silly question then, The 6 bolts are done through the inspection cover?

Jit

yeh thru the inspection cover....its easier ifyou have an assistant turn the engine over on the front pulley for you and then hold it in the right place from the top rather than wedging screwdrivers against the dowels on the flywheel....

Ricco_04

Ahhh ha!  Nice one.  Thats the plan for tomorrow morning then :yes

Thanks Jit, you are a lifesaver! :Thumbs-up

you will need to release the slave cylinder so that the pressure will be released off the clutch fork.
There are performance cars and then there is the RX-7...........

engine built by....... umm me! now powered by a T51 Kai......

Cheers Dave.

Going to have a go in a bit, need bacon buttie first :mmmm

Don\'t do the daft thing I did when re-installing the setup. I forgot to reclip the assembly back together and spurted oil all over the inside of the clutch housing ! Then I ended up completely removing the gearbox for no reason.

It is much easier to do it that way because you don\'t need to move the gearbox too far away to change the friction plate. First time I left the cover clipped on and rebolted it up from the inspection cover. No alignment headaches then !

I just end up spending ages and ages bolting it back up again. That can be a bit of a pain sometimes.....so put a mark on the clutck and flywheel so you know how to line them back up again. Trust me, it\'ll save you hours of swearing!!

Ricco_04

Oh I have had hours of swearing already!  I cant believe it\'s taking me this long

So anyway, I have removed the 6 bolts :) (great - although had a surprise on that the main/eccentric shaft nut actually started to undoo, was a pain in the ass on the FC to undoo! - good job this engine will be stripped!)

But I still cant release the gearbox from the engine.  I know im forgetting to do something but I just cant think!?!?!?!?!?!?!? :3Confused

I have been over and around this thing now for too long, my brain hurts! (and back, arms etc :Giggle)

nikp

So - the bolts are all undone? That should be all that\'s required to seperate gearbox from engine. Unless you\'ve left some bell housing bolts in?

Have you got a gap between engine and gearbox?

Ricco_04

Oh good, im not going mad then! :o

Yeah, all 6 bolts are off.  There is about a 5mm ish gap betwene bell housing and engine but still not seperating.

All 5 bell housing bolts are out (1 long bolt) -  now you gonna tell me there is more! :Giggle

Matt_K

Have you removed the starter motor?

nikp

Has the clutch plate actually started moving away from the flywheel?

(Also, have you removed the wiring from the gearbox?)
