Hi,
Just been cleaning wiring which connects to the altenator, it was covered in oil from previous oil changes and looked messy.
I disconnected the altenator cable and it touched the engine lifting lug, small spark before I grabbed it.

Cable reattached, (carefully) but now the car will not start.

Battery is fully charged,
When I turn the Ignition to position 1, the aftermarket oil pressure, temperature dials light up (normal), but when I turn the ignition to position 2, all lights go out, (not normal).
Turn ignition to position 3 start and all lights are out (not normal), engine turns freely but does not fire.

I have checked all fuses in the engine bay, all okay.

Any ideas ?

Thanks
Chris

Hi Karl,
Thanks for the advice, yes I have now checked all the fuses in the drivers side foot well and all are good.

I have investigated further the wiring around the oil filler area, found a bunch containing 3 wires, olive green\'ish in colour with a heavy sheath around them with an earth cable inside the sheathing. All three wires had been cut at some time and lashed together with tape, I guess I disturbed them earlier.

I have cleaned these wires, seperated them and spliced the correct corresponding cables, but the car will still not start.

Now removed a plug and can advise, no spark at the plugs !!

Can anyone help ?

Thanks
Chris

check the EGI fuse in the engine bay.... this will stop the car firing up as it cuts the fuel pump?

Hi Kash,
I checked the fuses in the engine bay, all were okay.

All the electrics are working in the car, but no spark at the plug !

Could it be the ignition thats broke ?

I\'ve got a few fuses kicking around in my garrage you can borrow to test (The ones that attach to the battery box)

As for ignition you have an Ignitor on the (looking from the front) Right wing, then the coils under the uim. maybe that connector got disturbed?

Also was the plug grounded when you tried to fire it? as it wont do much without a ground. i know its a daft question but somtimes people forget. :)
I woof in your general direction.

Hi Leon,
Thanks for the offer, I may take you up on it later this week (I\'m working away for a few days so no chance of working on the car).

Yes the plug was ground, but definately no spark !

The reason I suspected the ignition was that the dash warning lights went out when the key was turned from position 1 to position 2, normally I think the lights stay on until the switch is turned to position 3 (engine start).
I did experience a slight problem engaging the key a week ago, but sprayed WD40 in to the barrel and it has operated okay since.

I may be looking in the wrong place !

My main concern was that I blew a fuse or relay when the alternator wire touched the engine lifting lug and sparked.
