ok so i decided to get rid of the wiring loom across the front of the car -well as much as possible without rewiring the car! so i\'ve removed things like the radio relay, air con and air pump as they are no longer there.now the fuel pump is what im moving onto, now what is the speed relay do?and do i need it?

My system set up at the moment is pump in the tank, flowing into a swirlpot in the boot which then has another bosch pump pulling fuell out of the swirlpot to the injectors, now this lot is currently wired through the standard relays which give the relay in the boot a voltage to turn on-i think this setup at the moment has too many points at which to go wrong!

Long read i know-sorry. So the question is this to give my pumps the best voltage and current possible i will wire the two pumps each with its own relay in the boot from the battery(incedently in the back of the car) with a switched ignition and get rid of the rest of the relays in the front.is that ok or do i need the speed relay and also the standard fuel pump resistor or is that on the standard in tank pump anyway?

Cheers rob

I don\'t have an answer for you fella, but a quick question if you don\'t mind. With the pump and swirl pot in the boot do you get a fuel smell in the cabin?

RobMatthews

Memski yes there is a fuel smell in the cabin:-(
If your doing it on a road car i think there are swirl pots about for putting under the car.:-)

Rob....you shouldnt run the swirl pot in the car full stop!  In the event of an accident, you will have 1-2 litres of fuel sloshing around the car!!

Get a fire guard over it!!!

well i never plan to have an accident! it was there when i bought it how would i build a fireguard?is it just a case of boxing it all in an alloy box?

Jon how are your pumps wired?

Our pumps are wired through a very large fuse, and a switch that is capable of having 13A passed through it.

We just put an alley case around our set up, it needs to be reasonably air tight though.  Have a look at what TonyC did in his car.

Im glad youve said you dont intend to crash seeing as though Im due to sit next to you!!! ;)

It is unlikely that your pump is using the stock relay to switch on as the stock system only runs 6v at idle which isnt enough to switch your new relay on.  Its used to reduce fuel pressure when its not needed.

Run the system and pull the relay, if the pump still runs, then its not being used, so get rid.
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

Thanks for the reply Rob, any more ideas on how to make the fireguard airtight? Will search under TonyC to see what he\'s done, many thanks.
