My other half is looking at a few cars and really wants an rx8. Prob is i drive a single turbo RX7 and it isnt the most reliable or fuel economical car in the world so.............. the 8 really needs to be good day to day and used as a rounaround.

what are they like on fuel..................... forget the official figures... what are you guys actually getting. also are there any gremlins that are appearing as the cars are getting a bit older

thanks for your advice

same here mate, i drive a single FD and she drives an 8

Use hers more than mine and we havent had one problem and we have done 3000 miles in 2 months.

Fuel is a different story, we are getting average of about 230 miles to £50-£55 of fuel and that includes running round town, cruising on motorways and putting foot down a bit.

Make sure that all recalls have been done and is serviced regulary and you shouldnt have any problems. RX8\'s are getting to 200k miles on them at mo so reliability isnt a issue. Just the ful bill :-)

I agree with all the above.

My 8 is a really practical every day car and has never let me down.

I get around 250 miles to a tank, normal driving and it was costing £60 per tank (but it will be a bit more now after the budget increases).

So it just depends how much milage he\'s going to do - if I had to use mine everyday it might be and issue but I normally work in The City.

Yeah I think it\'s a 60L tank so mine works out a 19mpg

I run both, with the 8 as a daily driver, c.25 miles a day. It\'s never let me down, and I am reckoning between 18 & 23 mpg depending on how aggressive I am.

thanks guys. gives us something to think about.

Just what they all said really.

Mine is now 4.5 years old and whilst there have been minor niggles and some items replaced under warranty/extended warranty, nothing that does not beset all new models whatever the manufacturer.

Reliability is about good maintenance, so if buying secondhand I would suggest a full service history is essential, also chat to the owner and see what he answers to the question "How often do you check and top up the oil".

If the answer is seldom, or when I think of it be afraid, very afraid. Answer should be every second fuel stop or approx 500 miles. It doesn\'t always need oil every 500 miles, but at least he is aware of the need to check.

yeah i agree with the above i looked at lots, on was stupidly cheap and after a chat to a garage they said keep away, one we looked up we asked about oil and she said \'the oil light comes on and she tops it up\' so no go, lot of luck with my one it has almost 50k on the clock but runs brill owner before (who was first owner) looked after it and was mainly motorway miles and mazda were good with the recalls. there brilliant cars, alot for your money very reliable but very juicy and road tax will be doubling next year
