okay.....my engine is "getting a little tired" & will no doubt, soon need a rebuild or new engine. I\'m toying with the idea of buying a new block & building a bit of a beast. Ideally i want to be making between 400 - 500hp with ease...possibly more but no more than 600.

my question to you is....

If you were doing this... what parts/mods would you have all in all like which turbo, fuel system, porting, everything! (i already have an apexi PFC so thats taken for granted) once i have a pretty comprehensive list.... i can start buying!

(p.s... if anyone has a freshly rebuilt block for sale in the next few months...let me know!)

Me personaly wouldn`t go over 1bar which with the right mods would see no more than 550hp, this is more than enough plus it will be drivable with a good wide power band, unlike a 600+hp that`ll be a pain to drive. Mods wise i would leave the internals standard as they can quite easily take it, don`t bother with expensive "race spec" apex seals , there`re too brittle. Have the block street ported tho, this will give you loads more power and torque, if you start having bridge ports then the drivabality becomes an issue. Greddy t78 will be my choice for turbo, intercooler i would go for a v-mount set-up, fueling i would go for 2 1300cc and 2 1600cc injecters this wil be sufficent enough. I would go hks for my exhaust, induction, dumpvalve etc. A decent radiator, ast and not to mention a clutch should also be added to your "dream list" . hope this helps

sounds good... forgot to say..obviously clutch & brake upgrades might be a good idea lol. how does the T78 compare to the T51 KAi that people are raving about? are there any other good "Bits N Bobs" worthwhile doing too?

turbo boy

The t78 will come on boost a lot quicker than a t51r, plus its cheaper. The t78 is rated to 800hp so bang for ya buck its the best out there. A good set of wheels are a must too, 18s 8.5front 9.5 rear providing you have standard arches. A decent rear wing would look good plus giving more drag which will give you better handling aswell as front fender chassis braces. Go for a well vented bonnet as cooling is most important, plus it looks badass, scoot do a good bonnet, its an old design but timeless. I would also go for sleek headlights which also look badass.

I\'d go speak to one of the tuners WGT, REworx, Dragon or RX Motors if your serious. The shopping list is very long and has been covered a few times on here.
Quick List in no real order. Ported Engine, Engine Management System, Upgrade Fuel System... injectors, FPR and pump/pumps.
Intercooler & Radiator, T51r SPL,  Upgrade Ignition system
I\'ve missed stuff out.. but the grown ups will give you a good steer.
Also you\'ll need big brakes... BIG fduking brakes.
500 is not that easy to hit... also 500 in an FD is a very focussing drive, you\'ll need quick hands ;)
Mines Black and dirtier than Donatos. But hey, no-one asked for a good clean fight.

there are alot of things to consider when going for 500+ bhp and alot of different routes to take, alot of it depends on what you want to use the car for?? show car? weekend car? drag racing car? track car?

There are prob quite a few cars on here that have 500bhp engines, but i bet they all have reached them with different configurations, different mods and use there cars for different things.

As stated above you are probably best talking to one of the tuners, telling them what you want, what you want ot use it for and your budget.

When trying to build a "beast" its not just a case of chucking a load of parts together you have to really come up with a precise plan of what you are going to do with your engine, alot of people build up there engine over a matter of years, i myself would love 500+ bhp, i have had my car 3 years and have gone from standard to around 400bhp in that time, give it another couple years and i might make it to 500bhp :D

Its gonna cost quite a bit of money to go from standard to 500+bhp thats for sure.  I guess the main things you have to look at are:

Porting
Turbo
Intercooler
Fuel Pump (s)
Injectors
Probably water injection
etc etc etc

sounds like a plan.... i\'ll have a chat with pip at WGT. was just wondering what you guys thoughts were on it with your experiances of differant setups e.t.c i can hear the pro\'s & cons of each path. initially i\'ll be happy when i get over 500hp then after a year or two more, possibly try & go for 600 maybe....but 500 is a good target for the moment. i\'ll be using the car for weekend & evening fun driving, a bit of track driving & also to a few shows e.t.c. i want it to be a mean street car that can handle itself well on a track basically. just with me needing a new engine soon & just getting myself into a reasonably well paid job/career i\'d best get spending money on the car before the missus wants kids in a year or two...may as well get it done whilst i can lol :rollin

God, if she\'s talking like that there\'s no time to lose, mate. I was experimenting with fitting a child seat in the back of my FD only this afternoon....

....I\'d rather be trying to fit 500 bhp in the front! Talk about square peg, round hole!

is 500bhp not kinda the limit on the chassis before it starts to bend with the power? i reckon you should add as many body stiffners as possible too..

i guess at around 500bhp your gonna really need to start upgrading all the other bits like:

brakes
suspension
bushes (suspension, engine, diff etc)
diff
clutch

There is a whole lot of work to reliably get to 500 BHP, the list will just go on and on.

With the right planning it\'s something that can be done in stages, but you are going to have to look at so many areas of the car to get there sensibly.  After all - I suspect you don\'t want it popping the first time you give it some beans.

So here\'s a vague list of all the areas that need seeing to:

Engine (Porting choices, tip choices, new parts, plugs, oil injectors/premix, RE block and runners?)
Clutch
Diff (you\'re old one might not last long with 500 ponies trying to rip it open)
Gearbox / Diff / Engine mounts
Fuelling (fuel pump, fuel lines, split fuel system, Additional injectors?, FPR upgrade, swirl pot, upgraded fuel lines)
Turbo / manifold / downpipe
Cooling (Intercooler, oil coolers, Rad, whether to go vmount, bonnet venting, water pump, oil pressure increase?, cold air feed, water injection)
Exhaust system, Intake system
Ignition Amps?, Plug leads
ECU change
gauges to keep a good eye open (EGT, wideband AFR, water and oil temp, oil pressure, boost(+controller), fuel pressure)
Wiring loom and electricals (rewire, new/upgraded alternator, earthing straps)
Wheels, Tyres, Brakes, Suspension, Chassis stiffening, lights...
....

there is more - but this isn\'t and exhaustive list :)

The big part of this wish list is 10k cash to hit 500hp :rollin
Ported Engine (new bearings, standard seals are fine with good tune)
Turbo kit eg T78 or T04Z (If you want 600hp on a Rotary that it will be T51 or T88)
Fueling system (Swirl Pot, big pump Bosch 044 or Twin pumps if target is 600 or a Aeromotive A1000 and be done with it)
Injectors at least 1680cc Secondaries
Uprated ignition system (HKS Twin Power or Crane Fireball)
Bigger Rad
Intercooler FMIC or VMOUNT
Diff , Standard diff will break at this power level (Kazz 1.5 way)
Diff Brace
Gearbox Brace
Minimum of uprated pads and Discs

1BAR on a T78 or TO4Z will get you around 400-420 at the wheels depending on porting which is around the 500 at the flywheel mark

you have to think about certain things like:

heavier porting will make it harder to drive especially in traffic.
the bigger the turbo the more lag you are likely to get.

If you want to use the car for mainly street then i would aim for 500bhp and go for a t78 or to4z

weejimmy

i like this thread. i had a load of work done by pip but took it home to weld up a new exhaust and v mount set up and my tig\'s went and broke so i cant get it finished to see the power.
  i have.
t78, large street port, full rebuild, dowled. and others so should be good for 400bhp  with right fuel sety up. woo hoo.
