As far as I can remember there is not supposed to be a retractor relay in the relay box at the very front of the car....mine doesnt anyway and I think that this was for US cars.

It sounds to me like you might have a blown fuse somewhere so check this first...if you had a problem with your retractors it wouldnt affect the operation of your lights, you should still get dipped and full beam.

I had a problm with my retractor motor and had to replace one of them. When I did this they still didnt work right and it turned out to be a loose connector behiond the retractor switch on the dash (also, make sure that this is not pressed on as no matter what your lights will stay up).

So firstly, check for blown fuse for the lights and also check that the retractor button on the dash is not pressed and stoppin the lights from comming back down!

ok progress
the realy that is suposed to be up near batery. that has a rubber jacket type thing was buggerd. i put the fule realy in and it works.
so got all lights now.
just still wont pop down.
all fuses are ok including ones near gogo pedal.
switch on dash is not on.

Maybe it will all work correctly when you put the proper relay in there then....if it doesnt then I would reckon its either a rectractor motor gone or the switch on the dash is disconnected (mine was disconnected when i got it).

You can manually wind the lights down using the twisty thingys behend each light, try winding them down and then pressing the switch on the dash. If they pop up then that switch is most likely ok..

I would get the proper replcement relay in there (beside batery) before I went any further tho!! As it may be the cause ogf the problem.

I had to replace a retractor motor and connect back up the switch on the dash before they worked properly. Took me a while to suss out the dash switch tho!!

Good luck

sounds like it could be the switch as when i wind them down the switch dosent bring them up but if i put lights on the do.
so ill check switch.
and get a new relay.
where can i get a new relay? just mazda???

Jimmy,

If you take off the bottom trim piece under the steering wheel (3 screws I think) then pop off the side piece to the right (where the door closes/vent on it) you should b able to get your hand up to the switch. It might just be loose and need to be re-connected. That sounds like your problem to me!!

And on the relay im not sure but probobly just mazda, you prob better off geting the exact one anyway...also I would probobly do the relay before going at the switch....but it does sound like the switch is stuck in the on position (Lights up no matter what)
