Starter motor - HOW MUCH?!

I need a starter motor for my \'83 rx-7.

I have just phoned a Mazda dealer, they couldn\'t give me an accurate estimate because I didn\'t have my chassis number to hand, but the bloke gave me a rough estimate of..........wait for it................. this is impressive ............................ £400

My initial reaction was :rollin then I asked him to repeat it, and I checked that he was only giving me a quote for the starter motor and not the whole engine. And yep, £400 \'roughly\'.

Now, this provides me with a problem, you see, I only paid £200 for the car. On top of this, I only use the car for this

Anyway, Seeing as I don\'t have £400 I was wondering whether anyone on here can point me in the direction of someone that has start motors for sale for a much, much more reasonable price??

If you look up CAR ELECTRICS in the yellow pages you should find plenty people that will recondition the unit for you. You should pay between £30 - £60 depending on how bad the unit you have is.

Normally on starters it just the bearings or the solenoid and these are repaceable without the expense or replacing the old unit.

I have spoken with RX Motors, and have arranged a starter motor through them

It still works intermitantly in a noisy/worrying kind of way, but i do need a new one.
