I cannot seem to get a spark from my plugs no matter what. The engine cut out all of a sudden and I couldnt get it fired up again, so i did the fuel fuse trick incase it was flooded, and still nothing.

Took out spark plugs (1 was very loose and covered in petral) so cleaned them all up, put them in the oven, left the car standing a few days, and tried to put them back in, but still will not start.

I had the plug connected to ht lead and touched the chassis while cranking the engine and there was no spark at all. Im not sure if I grounded it properly but surely touhing the inlet mani is as good a ground as any?

the ht leads seem to be firmly in place (however havent disconnected/reconnected them as havent taken off the tb yet.)

Im not to clued up on rotarys yet, but Im thinking dizzy or coilpack? or is there anything else I can look at that would be simpler? Alot of people telling me to do the oil trick and put some oil down a couple of bleed nipples on the manifold, however if theres no spark, I dont see oil helping?

Cheers

Hey wee_bim, No spark at all even after touching a good ground source thats not good! but at least you got somthign to work with, You could check that the ignitor is plugged in properly, as its easy to get to:

Standing at the right hand side of the engine bay (looking down at the spark plugs) look bellow you at the wing and you\'ll see a silver box, i actualy think its marked up ignitor!

As for coil packs to get to them properly its a take the upper manifold off job :mmmm

Good luck with it
I woof in your general direction.

no spark on ANY of the plugs?

if not, then it cant be the Coil packs, how could they both fail at the same time?

What about immobiliser / alarm? Can you bridge the cut in the circuit that the immob would cut into and check it\'s that?

The fact there\'s no spark and it just stopped doesn\'t make me thing anything\'s broken, it makes me think a relay or fuse has died, or the immobiliser is causing the usual headaches.

have you checked the obvious .. the EGI fuse ?

this will stop the plugs from sparking ( i think )

when i test the plugs i rest them on the bonnet stay - thats DEFO a good earth

I\'ve done plug leads without so much as taking the tb off. You have to remove the oil filler cap and move the vapour tank out of the way, but you can get access.
This could be a crank angle sensor issue though. Does the rev counter move while you\'re cranking the engine over on the starter?

wow thank you for the replies, alot of this is very helpful, I will check these out when Im home.
I have taken out and put the egi fuse back in, but that hasnt made a differance, but as i took it out, i will clean it up incase i got oil on it or something.
there is no alarm/immobiliser as such although i have a turbo timer if that makes a differance?
any good way of checking fuses without replacing them?

I swapped over the fuses and tried the oil trick and it somehow worked.. was running rough at 1st but now she seems fine.. thanks again for the help all.. this forum is amazingly insightful (however its spelt) and ill definatly be becoming a full member when I get payed if only to contribute to the community!

Thanks again
